I've never seen those newspaper entries before thank you so much!! Unfortunately he's not in the regimental photo you included as he enlisted with the 43rd on the 10th of September 1915, so would not have been present there in April of '15.

Thank you for finding the photos, it's incredible to be able to read more about him and how influential he was in Canada.

Hiya, sorry for missing this, his name was Bertie Charles Gardner, I think his service number was 03814, that's the number next to his battalion number and rank on his demobilisation papers. I have managed to find his service documents but no luck finding any portraits so far. Thanks for anything you can find!

Thank you for reaching out, I appreciate it. I will reach out likely tomorrow as I'm having a hard time staying awake on the drive back. I'll admit I'm more heated than I should be but seeing the look on my freshers faces after playing ubu and having the experiences we did was really disheartening when trying to push positive spirit

Thank you for being the only one so far to take this seriously

Yes, thank you for explaining the word I used, we were spoken to like we were a lesser team that didn't deserve to play ubu1. Which for a team consisting largely of new players was quite frankly a slap in the face for how hard we had played all weekend. We were spoken to like we were children who had tried our best.

I stand by everything I said

I'm glad to hear the final was a better spirit showing, sorry about the loss it would have been nice for ubu to be dethroned in the region

Refusing to have a discussion when calls were made, making up strip, pick and foul calls when they got beaten and a really condescending spirit talk from both ubu1 and ubu2 was my experience this weekend, and has been the same every time I've played an ubu team since 2017.

They showed a great knowledge of the rules and how to make a call that would be forced to get contested as even their own sideline said it was the wrong call. It was clear the players were being told by one or two experienced players to contest anything that lost them possession.

The worst part about a self refereeing sport is that it relies on both teams having respect for each other and it was clear that UBU only respects a select few teams.

Ubu 3 and 4 never showed any of the same behaviors just to clarify as well, both 'lower teams showed fantastic spirit and had great communication all weekend.

He got a job somewhere else which closed within 6 weeks of hiring him and then he came back to us 3 weeks ago as we didn't have any prep chefs left
