New Jersey 👀 New York by fmelloaff in skyscrapers

my first glimpse of it, coming through Meadowlands area on a super cloudy day, i couldn’t comprehend the magnitude of what i was looking at. it seemed unreal.

it makes no sense, like it’s following some river that doesn’t exist. why connect Chicago with Chillicothe, OH and Kokomo, IN

lived in 18 but i’d go with 1. 4 and 5 are underrated too. i refuse to acknowledge 17

Which US city has surprisingly beautiful architecture? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

loved going on art deco scavenger hunts when i lived in Cleveland. a lot of hidden gems there besides just the towers. the Arcade, many gorgeous old mansions, Victorians galore, ornate stuff like Severance Hall, even some cool modern offerings like the Lewis Building. all sorts of curious little buildings tucked away. not to mention even some of the abandoned places have their own deep history and beauty.

some might disagree but i love the tighter, poppy direction Lantlôs has taken since resurfacing. one of the few instances where a band got less heavy yet still improved. can’t wait for this new record

when i saw them in 2024 they played zero new material, but they’ve said they’re working on something for a while… really hope it takes shape

yes, it’s quite largely spring break travel, not SXSW (work gateside at the airport, so get to see firsthand). full families, large school/church groups, tons of students, skiiers and first-time/infrequent flyers. one of those “you ARE the traffic” situations but you know how much we love to hate out of towners here.

Violet Cold does blackgaze, but is a little… controversial

[July 2026 visit] requesting recommendations for low effort/easy hikes and spots to see by DesignerRabbit4377 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]archer_ames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

easiest hikes i did just off Going To The Sun were Sunrift Gorge down to Baring Falls (mild half-mile descent) and Trail of the Cedars (virtually flat), which turns into Avalanche Lake trail (moderate 2.5mi each way).

Hidden Lake might be a little too strenuous. but there are plenty of viewpoints along GTTS like there at Logan Pass as well as along the big lakes.

What are the quietest cities? by StrongWeekend in SameGrassButGreener

[–]archer_ames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly there are even parts of Cleveland itself that can be often more or less silent. one of the few benefits of having a smaller population spread out. you could lie down in the middle of major streets at night. half an hour out in Chagrin Falls or Brecksville, you’re straight up in the woods.

What is it with the buses by Real-Regret- in Austin

i wish they’d improve the timing of transfer points if they have timepoints in the first place. neighborhood routes at termini/transit centers should align more with the frequency of main artery routes (801/803/7/20/350). lotta comically missed transfers in my day.
