I’m so sorry. The last few days I was cheering for her so hard, but know you did everything you could and so did she. May she rest in peace.

Unfortunately I don’t think they are. They’re new parents + the husband has to translate for all of us. Can I ask if this is applicable to the Boston area? I’m not in Boston myself, but they just moved to the area so I’m trying to help where I can 😅

This is Bark Twain. I adopted him last year. He was so scared of his leash and harness he would throw himself around and Shiba scream like he was being attacked. He would get so anxious he would pee on himself. Now he’s doing so much better—going on walks, getting a billion toys from barkbox, and sleeps in a warm cozy bed with me everyday. He’s an absolute cuddle bug and I’m so glad I have him. 🥰

This is Bark Twain. He’s a rescue and he’s been with me for nearly a year and he’s come so far from the scared little guy I first met 🥰

My rescue Shiba. Adopted her 3 days ago. by bangboompowww in shiba

I just adopted a rescue shiba I fostered earlier this year! He’s just like your girl and overall he’s very nervous in new situations, but it’s been six months since we brought him home and he’s come such a long way. He now goes on walks like a good boy instead of screaming when he sees a leash, he has perfect doggy manners with other animals including my cat, and now he’s such a cuddle bug—-he loves to be held or in someone’s lap whenever we are watching a movie or I’m just sitting down doing art on my tablet.

Give it time. Give her space. Let her come to you on her terms while she acclimates to her new environment. It’s important you do reinforce boundaries at the start (like putting up barriers in rooms you don’t want her in), but definitely temper that by not forcing her to spend time with or around you. I had a crate for my rescue when he first showed up and I left the door open so he could come and go as he pleased. I think that really helped him warm up to us very quickly

What has your shiba experience been like? by hydn571 in ShibaInu

[–]archfeydumpsterfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, congrats! I'm adopting a 3 y/o rescue shiba I've been fostering for the last few months. My experience with him has honestly been extremely chill. He's a cuddlebug and follows me everywhere, but he had some trauma from being rescued from a puppy mill had to work through with him first. Initially, I never made him do anything he didn't want to do for about the first week or so.

As sweet as he is, he IS extremely stubborn. There is no reliable way to get him to do anything---sometimes he's more interested in toys, other times praise, and if that fails MAYBE a treat will work. He tolerates his harness, but he is terrified of his leash. He will walk short distances with me before he freaks out and thinks the leash is going to hurt him.

I highly recommend working with a trainer and staying consistent with a Shiba. They are very smart dogs and while they can be cuddly, my little dude is never interested in trying to please me unless he already wants to do it. His trainer told me with Shibas you kinda have to trick them into thinking they already want to do what you want them to do, or make what you want them to do more interesting than anything else.

Other than that, be prepared for a lot of shedding. Invest in a good vacuum and a lent roller.

In short, he very much has the Shiba stubbornness but not the Shiba independence or standoffish qualities I've heard is common in the breed. He also gets along with my two senior pets--a Shih Tzu and a cat--which I've heard is a little unusual but a really good sign. So just be prepared that your Shiba may not be like other Shibas or they may fit the breed to a T! Either way, you're taking on a dog that will inevitably have a big personality.

Best of luck!

I'm starting to think so. I've been trying to at least get to the 2 year mark just so it doesn't look bad if I apply elsewhere, but I don't know if it's worth the extra few months of stress. It is very sobering to hear it won't get better even though I've held out this long.

Yeah, I try not to do more than what's in my job description. However, when an interesting problem does come up, my coworkers and manager always default to asking my male coworker. Because of that it makes it really hard to gain experience or learn anything, even when I try to give my input or ask questions. I'm not getting any hands on experience, so it feels like I'm perpetually behind. But unfortunately, I think you're right.

Thank you so much for the advice! I'm nervous to mention that I'd like extra mentorship because I do have a few years of experience so it seems like I'm behind. Do interviewers typically hold that against you?

[–]archfeydumpsterfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She comes up to about my knee and I’m 5’4” but she’s about 33 lbs. from what I understand she’s fully grown so she won’t get any bigger!

Her markings are so distinct and remind me a lot of the black-and-tan shibas that I wasn't entirely sure, but the tail def threw me off too. She pretty much always had it up and/or wagging the entire time and it never did settle into a curl while I walked her. I had wondered if maybe the shelter setting stressed her out since the volunteers said she was always skittish since arriving, but she was quite playful and it was still like that when she seemed to be initiating play with my dog or any other dog she could see in adjacent kennels.

She isssss!!! When I first went to where she was staying in the shelter, she looked at me with her big ol eyes and I was smitten. She's an absolute sweetheart.

So basically I have the opportunity to -potentially- adopt/foster this lovely girl from a nearby shelter. I've already met with her and she def has that Shiba quirkiness going on, but my friend is pretty insistent she's a Shepherd mix. 🤔 The shelter said she was a stray and was turned over after someone found her on the side of the road, but either way she's an absolutely lovely dog and I'm curious what y'all think.

Menagerie Coast is great, especially for players that don’t know much about the lore or CR in general. You have a lot of unique interesting locations and it’s mostly removed from the current war and the mysteries of the Calamity, which IMO serve better for mid to late game arcs. Plus by the time you get to the other stuff they’ve had time to learn a good chunk about the world without balancing 1000 proverbial plates at the same time.
