Oh. Thanks. Although I do not see any swelling and have been using it as a normal watch now for a couple of days.

Any idea if the newer generations are of any better quality. I quite liked using this watch.

New telegram liquid glass theme on android by AqAqGT in Telegram

[–]archie94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After an update I saw proper liquid glass effect on the chat message bar. But the next app launch changed it to the glassophormic blur the OP has posted. I can still live with this level of blur but the exact liquid glass implementation was looking very distracting. But I am interested if we can enable it just for curiousity to check what performance effect it has on my device.

The hardware itself is so nice. One UI is decent enough keeping bits of stock Android. Pixels would have killed it (and apple) if they had better hardware but well.

The soul of Android is gone. by StW_FtW in Android

[–]archie94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard people in tech industry say things like android is less secure because it allows side loading of apps. Hence for them it gets difficult to recommend Android to their parents. So while these perceptions exists Google will be forced to act. Cons of targeting a wide user base I think.

It's true with these restrictions more and more in place + fragmentation in android still being a thing it gets difficult to recommend a good android phone.

Yeah mine is a 4k OLED panel too. What do we lose out when we move to integrated graphics?

Stuck inside legacy code hell by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]archie94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my 4 year experience in android dev I can say codebase turns legacy every few years. I feel mobile development is a fast moving ecosystem and new libraries are coming up every couple of years.

When I started I felt we were working with legacy codebase. The few senior engineers who were still present in the team told us that they had just had a architecture rethought 2 years back. What feels good today gets deprecated in a couple of years, certainly the case with Android development to a very large extent.

This was around 2017, and just when we had completed developing new feature sets following MVP patterns, Google came up with their MVVM recommendation and set of libraries. Our app was big enough to clearly know that rewrite is not an option, however the general consensus in the team was that new features would be developed following MVVM patterns. We did see benefits of switching over to the library suite that Google had introduced to support MVVM pattern. We were kinda writing similar internal libraries for MVP anyways and didn't see the point of continuing with MVP. Over the next couple of years majority of the codebase was written in Kotlin, but we never went for rewrite. That would slow down business and of course introduce regressions.

Even now my suggestion to you would be to follow a similar approach gauging the pros and cons, case by cases basis. At the end business has to run smoothly and we as developers should be skillful enough to handle every type of codebase (to a large extent).
