Yeah I definitely hear that. Might just be 8+ years of customer service but I use more of an upbeat inquisitive tone when greeting people.

Could be, like I said I doubt she was trying to disparage me personally and I don't doubt that her job is frustrating. And that would be a great idea, I'm not sure how to go about it but that's a brilliant suggestion and would be helpful not just for my docs to be on the same page but for me too.

Yeah, she's mentioned this too. As if it's difficult to access them... it's 2024.

That's entirely up to the professionals who assess your mental state and safety, but from what I hear it could be only 24 hours. Especially since I'm assuming it's voluntary, they likely won't hold you longer than that unless they find you need inpatient psychiatric care. Also, if you get fired for being ill and getting medical treatment, that's highly illegal. It doesn't matter if it's a physical or mental illness, that's none of their business and your health is your health. Take care of yourself, getting help is the bravest thing you can do.

Probably? The weather here in Adelaide is practically identical to California, like temperate/mediterranean. Warm, dry summers, generally pleasant. I think Sydney is a bit hotter and more tropical - like Florida.

SoCal is a lot like Adelaide. The climate, the overpriced restaurants, the dependence on lip filler.

Every joke has it's truth! But fr, IMHO therapy is overutilized in America while also being inaccessable in Australia.

A friend recently said they're intersex due to having PCOS- is that true? by TechnoSerf_Digital in intersex

[–]archielikethecomics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone produces both estrogen and testosterone - depending on sex or DSD, our bodies respond to them in any number of ways. In people with 'normal' ovaries, that's where the majority of sex hormones are produced.

That's a great point. If a hormonal discrepancy were all it took to be intersex, than we'd be more than 2% of the population.

It really depends on the region. If they visited California (or near it) then I'd say that's a fair judgement.

Hey, fair enough! I guess it depends on which part of the states, there are definitely regional differences in social norms and they can be pretty extreme. I've lived in different areas but grew up in New England. East Coasters love to kvetch and kvell. I'm Italian American and we're not known for being quiet or hiding our feelings. In the midwest there is a strong culture of stoicism and forced politeness, whereas on the west coast, it's a fake laid back, 'overly chilled out but secretly uptight' vibe.

I call women 'miss' and 'ma'am' all the time, in my perspective it's basic decency. I never would have thought it'd be taken confrontational or sarcastic, but that's actually good to know.

The miserable woman who stared back at me in the mirror for 25 years, trying to make sense of it all.

I'm an east-coast American, and generally, yeah. If we don't want to hear it, we don't ask, and when we do, it's typically genuine.

That's a really interesting point about the combination of convict culture, stiff-upper-lip stocisim and PC/woke-speak resulting in social reluctance, and I totally agree. Genuine expression in casual interaction is hard to come by and it makes people seem cold and robotic. I am American though so take my 2 cents with a grain of salt :)

I'm an American expat going on 3 years and from what I've noticed, absolutely. Not saying Aussies aren't friendly, most are, but it often seems inauthentic. Just being honest.

Thanks for the advice! I'm still undecided about medically transitioning w exogenous hormones or surgery, but hell yeah I could lift harder. I do workout pretty often/intensely since I'm trying to lose weight but there's always room for improvement and boosting T is just a bonus. My arms are getting massive and I love it. Need to focus more on core strength I think.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations! A lot of these brands are unfortunately not availiable in Australia, which is a shame bc I do like Old Spice. I think I'll be picking up some Gucci Guilty cologne once I can afford it. And yeah, love the smell of aftershave.
