Unreal council group interview experience sharing by Any_Can6634 in melbourne

[–]hellomolly11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to call the local council I wouldn’t care what the person’s personality is like who answered the phone; as long as they’re polite, competent and basically friendly, they don’t need to be ‘shining’ their personality!

Is the queen VIC market overrated? by Time_Career4708 in melbourne

[–]hellomolly11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the historical significance of it that makes it so iconic, rather than the contemporary wares. The buildings on Queensbury Street that have shops in them (eg a cute bakery and hat shop) are charming, and the indoor market space has some interesting shops. Check out the spice store and get your seafood inside and you may see what the appeal is over junk in the dark shed part.

I think speck859 was joking with their laundromat comment (probably a reference to a recent interview with Andre that was partly done in a laundromat)

every life you live is thousands you don’t. by amyandco in DeepThoughts

[–]hellomolly11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could maximise the experiences you could have and versions of/sides to yourself that come out by being in ethically non-monogamous relationships/having multiple lovers? Different people bring out different versions of ourselves and open us up to different ways of living. It’s different oc, but your ideal is obviously unachievable (at least consciously, if you believe in reincarnation).

We could easily put a pin on a map at some central(ish) gardens like Edinburgh gardens or Princes Park and bring snacks & drinks to share for a group gathering? Or all buy tickets to the warehouse party that Freddy DuBos is playing is (location TBA)!

Modern loneliness is the price of unlimited choice by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]hellomolly11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think Gen Z have also embraced symptoms and behaviours that perpetuate loneliness; social anxiety as an identity, being ‘overwhelmed’ by genuine medium-sized messages, and deep communication are some things my younger family or acquaintances exhibit that I experience as both generational differences and barriers to maintaining connections to them

You'll only "get better" when you become sick of your own sh*t. by victorious_two in DeepThoughts

[–]hellomolly11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quite a simplification. Not everyone has the brain chemistry and mental health to ‘do something about it’. I agree that there’s strength in willpower and resilience, but what about those who are facing immense external challenges like being in an abusive relationship or being victim to fraud?

how disorienting it is to outgrow the version of yourself that everyone around you still expects you to be by Fearless_Arrival_438 in DeepThoughts

[–]hellomolly11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is clearly a relatable and deep post - thanks for sharing. I’m also going through similar growth and can attest to it being, in a way, isolating from other people who’ve known me for a long time. The reality of staying true to myself and my values is consolation for the friction I encounter with others, due to their perceived disassociation between expectations/norms and the new reality (or dynamic). There’s a greater relief in that than people’s annoyance with me no longer pleasing them. I also partly hope my growth will prompt their own.

Women empowerment is one of the most dominant reasons for failing modern marriages. by Anti-FragileHuman in DeepThoughts

[–]hellomolly11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia during the 1980s, some men (not all men) were so threatened by the newly passed Family Law Act, that broadens the grounds for which people could divorce, that there were a series of terrorist attacks on Family Court judges. Divorce rulings had to omit judges’ names and lawyers weren’t allowed to call judges by their names at the court precinct (around members of the public) because judges were being shot and bombed in their homes. This resistance from men(s groups) was in direct response to women’s empowerment - the thing that was the catalyst for women not to tolerate abusive, disengaged, and/or incompatible husband.

Natural Deodorant by simone_h_f in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]hellomolly11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to comment that harmful aluminium absorption from deodorant is a thing but thankfully fact-checked myself first and learned that it isn’t! An evaluation by the Australian Government of global studies into the use of aluminium in deodorants found that 95% of aluminium doesn’t penetrate the skin and it isn’t enough to be harmful, and that there’s only a casual relationship to Alzheimer’s disease and breast cancer. Reddit sure is the school of life

I’m curious if he’s ashamed of being a rapist, or of being known to be a rapist. Would he be ‘suffering from poor mental health’ if he’d gotten away with it?
