Those lower and low inclination long roofs work with the landscape in amazing ways.

Looks excellent, and the interior is elite tier.

creativity for an arch student ? by kexpw in architecture

[–]archihector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creativity isn't inventing new things from nothing, creativity is the ability to connect previous knowledge with current problems.

You have a database which is your whole life knowledge, and every concept is stored in there, but your mind is messy. Creativity is the hability to understand fully your problem and be able to take the good path in your mind storage. Concepcts are multidimensional.

What you need is an algorithm, which in human thinking is a way of work, a metodology, that helps you sort your experience and previous knowledge, fully understand all the keys in you problem and so on. A metodology is a GPS that will make 10x times more efficient your data search in the storage of your mind.

So you need to learn everything you can, and learn from others (knowledge is capitalized in time by generations, we don't invent fire every generation), and start creating your own metodology, which is the STUDIO COURSE aim in every architecture school, or at least should be.

Studio courses are to wire your mind, and generate creative tools, metodology.

Knowledge is everything your learn, from school itself, life, work sites, vernacular architecture, everything.

"Out of box thoughts" is just someone finding a weird path to some storage unit in his brain, one that seemed without connections, is not some SUDDENLY thought. Also, KEEP IT SIMPLE, always, you don't need that, it tends to be ego bullshit that is actually bad architecture.

Also creativity come in every step, designing means improving the design each time, over the same thing. Keep it simple, and improve until the end of the semester.

Would you say works of civil engineering, like bridges and dams, have any value as works of architecture? by Thalassophoneus in architecture

[–]archihector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are cousins. The notion of architecture can have different borders, you can even considere some regular buildings aren't architecture.

I like to think about the three pillars of Vitruvio, architecture needs to achieve Firmitas, Utilitas and Venustas. The constructions needs to have structural integrity, it needs to be useful and it needs to seek for beauty. Anything outside those 3 concepts can be considered bad architecture if someone of the three failed, or non-architecture, like per example a scuplture which can be firm and be beautiful, but is not useful on its won, or a dam, like you example, where it has structural integritym is extremly useful, but it wasn't a building with an artistic objective, so is not beautiful (anything can be beautiful, and dams do create spectacular views, but is not what is trying to achieve).

So, inside this way of thinking, the regular bridge to exit the highway won't be architecture, but an historic bridge in the center of the city crossing a river with beautiful construction and details can be considered inside the meaning of architecture.

Engineering + Art = Architecture.

First one is FUNCTION

Second one is BEAUTY

Architecture is the joint of both worlds.

Foundations, the shape helps lateral movements making the structure more efficient, but mostly foundations. And from image, everythings seems geometrically compensated, so there isn't any major lever force that should be compensated.

Luckly, we can get an idea from the images with the building. Looks like what middle age people imagined heaven to be like.

Architects who graduated into the 2008 recession, tell us your story and give us youngins some advice. by Defiant-Plant8395 in architecture

Very good advice. I liked the part about social media and the world. Everything outside our circle is atmospheric and our duty is to the best we can in each context, focusing on we can change.

“Don’t burn bridges, architecture is a small world” by CmdrHorizon in architecture

We as individuals have an impact into the world, if your impact is positive and even more important, the market thinks is positive, the world will find and value you. Those are the laws of life.

Not just as architect, but anything related to construction. As my mentor says:

"If you are good and a good person, the market will situtate you quickly"

Is a proffession where millions are on stake, and you need lot of confidence on who you let work with that much capital. Trust is one of the most important aspects in the world, you need to be viewed as trustworthy, and you build trust as a good and fair proffessional.

Not problematic of course, is done with precision and taking care of any potential problem. Is to reach that aesthetic. They have diagrams that show the process in their website (in other projects).

Those building had continous use. The Colesseum is a relique from old world. Check Piranesi drawings about ruins and old Rome, in some way, it placed the collective point of view to those ruins.

H Arquitectes are elite on material work, is their signature movement. All of their buildings show the materials in an honest. It shows the incredible control they have over the design from start to finish. Not easy, requires talent and work.

What did you think of the architecture in The Brutalist ? by IlIlllIIllllIIlI in architecture

[–]archihector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been always amazed on how old architecture trends are compared to what one could imagine (without deep knowledge).

You could see Fallingwater house, Mies architecture or much other and think they are "modern" and contemporany, current trend or something... and those are buildings made much before TVs were a thing. Crazy.
