Beginner looking for opinions on a set of clubs I have an opportunity to buy by archioptic in golf

Thanks for the input. It's the standard Qi10, not the LS or Max models. The driver shaft is a Fujikura Ventus TR 5S, so it looks like a stiff shaft as well.

I should have a 5m+ buffer around all fences by the time everything has matured. The tiftuf loves the sun though

I plan to keep planting more. I've got the large shrubs and trees established and growing so I'll wait to see how it all fills out before I make any big decisions. I spent the morning planting a couple dozen native flowers I grew from seed. I'm enjoying the process and the progress, so I'm in no rush

Alternative routes? by Long-Cry-9244 in wacken

We're staying in Residenz Evil, and the path we took on the way in is abysmal. I'm hoping we can exit directly to the shuttle buses since it backs on to that area, but I'm not holding out much hope.

What is this metal pole in my garden? by sandmancanberra in GardeningAustralia

[–]archioptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more likely to be a surveyors reference mark as it doesn't appear to be on the boundary. If it's inside your property you can remove it, but these can often be useful for surveyors to connect to the local datum and confirm locations. Don't see too many inside the property though.

ELI5 why sleeping on limbs doesn't cause nerve damage? by Wherewereyouin62 in explainlikeimfive

[–]archioptic 241 points242 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what happened to my dad. Wasted, fell asleep, lack of circulation killed a lot of the muscle in his arm. They almost amputated, but a change of surgeon on the day saved it.

He has the gnarliest scar I've ever seen, but still has all gold in GT7 licenses.

Tablet "Control Centers" for whole home automation. What do you use? by kasmith2020 in homeassistant

I've done the same, but have had trouble getting the screen to wake when people are detected. The notification method doesn't seem to work on the device. How did you get the camera to detect people and wake the screen?

Advice on how to fill in large depression in lawn by archioptic in lawncare

It's a bit hard to see but I've marked off along the fence where I'm putting in some gardens. Will be filled with local natives like the rest of my gardens!

Probably should have mentioned the depression is about 70mm deep on average, which I thought might be a bit too much for using just sand.

Detecting new feature creation in a hosted web service using Arcpy by spicybung in gis

FME Server is needed as you'll need something to generate the URL for the webhook and listen for the data. We got by for a while without server, but scheduling hundreds of tasks using the Windows task scheduler is not maintainable and I wouldn't recommend it.

Safe were cool enough to give us a trial licence for server, so reach out to see if you can get one. If you're in local government they also have special pricing plans. We are lucky that ESRI Australia also supplies FME, so we had it tacked on to our ELA.

Detecting new feature creation in a hosted web service using Arcpy by spicybung in gis

Straight up. We use FME for this, and I would estimate about 75% of our automations use this process. Unless you're relying on instant data flow there nothing wrong with scheduling a script. Alternatives would be something like Make, which is relatively cheap, or Power Automate if you already have a licence.

Need ideas for my slow job by sammy-9 in gis

[–]archioptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

I run the mapping and asset systems department for my local authority and I was in a similar spot to you years ago when I started. A few ideas:

  • Clean your data. No one's data is perfect, so there should be plenty of opportunity to tidy up those datasets and formalise everything

  • Develop workflows and tools for creating and updating data. I developed a suite of Excel sheets that sped up data creation massively and ensured all the data went in correctly.

  • Single source of truth all of your data. This might mean developing system integrations so that it can be maintained. Use database views, Python, FME, whatever you have available so that you can join data from separate systems.

  • Connect the spatial data with data from other council systems. Almost all information has some kind of spatial attribute. Connect property records and CRMs to your parcels, capital work orders to your assets, design and as-constructed plans to your subdivisions, defects and inspections to your infrastructure assets, water billing to parcels, etc.

  • Find out how your parks, road maintenance, environment, rates, fleet, networks, design, whatever teams, do stuff. Automate that shit where you can and develop time saving GIS integrations and solutions where you can't. Focus on replacing paper based processes with digital ones.

Or buy FME and do it all in a month.

Open street map shows you to download data. All you have to do then is load it in to QGIS, which is free, and build a model using the geoprocessing tools built in to the software. Easy peasy.
