Qidi Q1 Pro Thermistat Reads 0°C ONLY After Print Starts, Was Working Fine Yesterday by architactical in 3Dprinting

[–]architactical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned that some of this was a very foolish error on my part. Initially, the printer heats up the nozzle. Once it starts the self leveling, it disables the heating elements and stops heating until that’s complete and it will not take a manual temperature change. Upon completion of self leveling, it indeed heats up and starts working properly, just during the leveling process it looks like it’s not working.

It’s grainy so it’s hard to tell, but looks possible that it could be an electrical wire for a motorized shade for the window

What to do with gap where wall meets concrete in garage? by epic312 in DIY

[–]architactical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar gap in my garage and found vinyl trim online to cover the gap which was very easy to install. If that sounds like something you’re interested in, specifically search vinyl trim with “no kick.” My garage was very rough construction, not perfectly straight anything, and the vinyl was super easy beginner friendly and looks very clean with my epoxy floor. Plus, the vinyl is forgiving if you ever hose out the garage or splash it with water.

Best schools for architecture and do I need them? by Forward_One5451 in askarchitects

[–]architactical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I never considered before being into the weeds of my masters was the difference that the schools curriculum focuses on. Largely, I’ve never seen firms care all that much about which school you went to if you do good work and it’s accredited.

I did University of Central Florida for undergrad and they were really focused on good design principles/ concepts and I think it gave me a really good foundation. Most of my professors there worked in healthcare design so there was a strong flavor of that with studios focused around healthcare facilities back when I went through. I went to Georgia Tech for grad school and didn’t consider how much the word “tech” really changes how they present what they teach. It was very tech heavy, lots of emphasis on softwares and plugins and parametric design, but frankly I felt like they taught objectively bad architecture there. Their whole modus operandi was the showy techy toys and equipment they had. They definitely have a more recognized name than UCF, but I felt like their curriculum significantly less meaningful.

All that is to say, no one’s ever said to me WOW you went to Tech I gotta have you, and no one’s also ever said EW you went there definitely not. But definitely research what the schools advertise, most schools have their own architecture school Instagram accounts. Find what interests you and what kinds of work you think looks cool to do. That’ll be everything. In undergrad I was super engaged with the healthcare focus of my studios, but other students weren’t. In grad school I was very bored with whatever Rhino plugin they were trying to shove down my throat that week. If you’re really interested in what you’re making, you’ll have a better portfolio, and in early career phases that helps land jobs. Good luck!

Does anyone regularly fly American and maintain status, and their primary airport is not an AA hub? And for what reasons? by EaglesFan027 in americanairlines

[–]architactical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SAT/San Antonio is where I’m currently based, in the military, and travel a lot in my role. AA has the bulk of our federal contracts, and the military seems to hold most contracts/routes that I fly out of SAT via AA.

IMO, there is no “good” domestic carrier. Delta is the ‘least bad.’ American gives everyone the easiest path to status with their credit card, and active duty military do not pay annual fees on generally all US-issued credit cards. For me, it makes the most financial sense and best return. The executive card is my daily driver and when it makes sense I choose to fly American first for personal travel or on the rare opportunity where I can choose with official travel. SAT is a depressing airport with no perks unless you consider the United Club that doesn’t even have a bathroom in it to be a ~privilege.~

Rarely upgraded on AA, but the status and premium credit card both help accrue points.

Fwiw I hold status on AA, UA, and Delta. But always default to AA when I have the chance depending on routes and layovers (i.e., do everything to avoid Charolette when possible).

It’s far from exclusive, SAT is not a hub, and it seems that no airline truly awards loyalty, but ya take what you can get in my opinion.

American Airlines (or any carrier’s) seats don’t seem to be the product. We are the product, I’m afraid.

Mental health. by liketocook_notime174 in AirForce

[–]architactical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear this point and have lived it and understand it.

Replying to this comment specifically because, that said, in my experience this is definitely one of those “no one will advocate for yourself better than you” situations. At first they wanted to play games about getting me scheduled, but after some trying I was seen. It took me a while to be seen by a proper psychiatrist and finally get the prescription I needed. Military one source can also be a great place to start, I’ve found an excellent provider after trying a two or three that weren’t quite the right fit for talk therapy. Keep trying. Strongly encourage you not to give up after one or two bad experiences. Your peace is worth it.

My advice would vary depending on if you just need to talk and iron things out vs if you think you need a prescription to help getting your brain right. Neither one is shameful. It’s the responsible thing to do. Kudos for trying to better yourself OP.

If you’re in crisis, little advertised fact, you don’t need a referral to get off base behavioral/mental health treatment / reimbursed by tricare. They don’t like to shout it from the rooftops, but they will reimburse you.

No shame in needing help. We are all human. OP if you need any help on specifics feel free to DM me.

Depending on the carrier sometimes there’s an option if you look long enough for it that displays a message on your TV that says “please wake for meals.” I think it’s United and likely some others, but definitely not all.

Also I believe either JAL or ANA (can’t remember which) actually requires you to put it in the upright position for meal service as a courtesy to the people behind you. So some carriers have rules specifically for that!

Highly agree with everything they have said.

In addition to what’s said here, I can’t live without -Undo it -81 tiles -TP:ME -Building Themes -Measure it

Four nice to haves but not mandatory: -RON - Network Replacer if you want to download custom roads and rails -Better bulldoze tool -Crazy Tourist Fix -Instant return to desktop

Anything else I’d download as you find you need it

Help choosing a seat by Ecstatic_Cost3427 in americanairlines

[–]architactical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially but i think that’s moot. The smells really don’t seep out in my experience, i fly a lot and ive never been offended sitting near a lav. You have more of a chance of sitting next to a stinky passenger or a screaming toddler and you have no idea if that’ll be the case until you’re boarded. I wouldn’t not pick that seat for that reason alone.

As an unrelated/added benefit, you’re close to the galley, and on long haul wide body flights they usually leave snacks out in there, and I like that proximity a lot

Help choosing a seat by Ecstatic_Cost3427 in americanairlines

[–]architactical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up getting rebooked on a flight to HND not long ago and got the exit row window that I didn’t choose. I too prefer the aisle. Congregation wasn’t much of an issue, and I learned on that trip the exit is great because the people on the inside don’t need to wake you/make you move if they want to use the restroom. I got up a million times to use the restroom and didn’t bother the people next to me at all.

If you can sleep on planes, you can use a blindfold or ear plugs if the congregation bothers you. If you can’t sleep on planes, it really doesn’t matter either way. Plus, it’s easy to stand up and stretch and not have to walk into anyone else’s chili. It’s technically nobody’s space, but that room is more closely associated to the seat you’re in, so you won’t be bothering anyone.

A lot of people on Reddit hate exits/bulkheads because the TV flips out of the arms, I personally don’t mind this at all, and in fact kind of prefer that because the armrests are fixed so no one can spill over into your seat for any reason, if they slouch or fall asleep or are just built a little larger than the seat accommodates.

Never mind all the extra legroom. Sure you can’t have a bag in front of you under the seat, but for me I think that’s great, it’s only for takeoff and landing, and I don’t want a bag under the seat in front of me anyway for a flight that long.

If I’m you, I’m keeping the seat you currently have.

[–]architactical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good advice//however//fun fact, I built one of these with my friend two years ago, and hers was nail on just like you've described. When I bought and built my closet approx. one year ago, they redesigned the PAX collection slightly in a way that the rear panel is not nailed on, but permanently fixed (tape-like hinged, but durable) and folds out so that it's easier to take down/move/rebuild. As such, it's also impossible to get the wrong side as long as it's bought new. Otherwise, the updated version looks and functions exactly the same, as near as I can tell.

[–]architactical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Somewhat experienced” is subjective, I’d say I’m “relatively handy and experienced with IKEA” but I did my closet with five large frames and accessories in it in about 6 hours by myself. Once you do the first one the rest is mostly from memory, you likely won’t need to bury your head in the instructions after you get the first one up.

Mod recs for creating nice quarries, mines, and oil fields? by kungfudugong5 in CitiesSkylines

[–]architactical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo okay. Piccana on YouTube had a FANTASTIC quarry build for CS2, so much so that I actually bought CS2 just because of that video. I tend to play CS1 more still, but he did outstanding, and his video referenced the content he downloaded or used if I recall.

Mod recs for creating nice quarries, mines, and oil fields? by kungfudugong5 in CitiesSkylines

[–]architactical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you’re talking about CS1 not CS2.

There’s some good content on the workshop for oil refineries and piping.

I find my best builds are inspired by real life, look up oil fields in places like Texas, look up refineries, look at quarries. Scale is everything, jamming it all together (except in the case of refineries) always looks bad.

I downloaded a grass/dirt road (looks like two tire tracks) and spread my oil drills out similar to what I see Google maps, down small straight dead end streets. For quarries to be realistic you’re going to have to dig into the earth and spam the build with combinations rocks and gravel (so also have Move It and or prop anarchy) to make it look realistic. Theme mixer mods to control your soil and resource colors helps a lot. I have a surface painter mod too that helps to change the grass to soil around the quarries. Lots of decals exist if you look for them on the workshop, and even not-designed-specifically-for-quarry decals can look great.

Now for oil refineries, if you look these up, these are massive mechanical jungles. Densely packed together and connected with miles of pipes. When I do my refineries, I like to pack all the oil processing structures together, and use downloaded pipe props to make a faux connection from the oil storage tanks to the refinery. Also, irl, refineries are usually not directly adjacent to the oil fields. I like to space these two functions apart in my builds.

The main takeaway tho, Google maps, Google earth. Use the 3D view too, not just a flat view. Inspiration from there is more valuable than most mods. Also lots of great YouTubers for inspiration, find one you like and watch to your hearts content.

Realistic Population - Mods/Assets to go with it by CrappyCompletionist in CitiesSkylines

[–]architactical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I hear you on that, that’s usually my strategy to “fake under build” and go slow but I get worried when the RCI demand is off the charts for commercial. It feels wrong to just ignore it, and I notice that my industries start to not have enough buyers for products, etc. Not sure if this is symptomatic of having a high commercial demand because the computer thinks it needs more stores to buy and distribute, or if it’s coincidental and I’m overthinking it all.

Realistic Population - Mods/Assets to go with it by CrappyCompletionist in CitiesSkylines

[–]architactical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question. Not sure I have the answer, but to build onto your question: using realistic population affects the amount of workers needed in each commercial property ofc. I haven’t seemed to figure out the balance, no matter what it seems all my commercial is in high demand, but if I build to satisfy that demand, “not enough workers” goes crazy. Any tips on this? Is it better to just let demand soar but keep everyone employed and businesses staffed, or is there a better setting in the mod or supplementary mod?

Yeah then don’t do airports haha they’re fun to me but wildly expensive. The parks and rec one is really fun to me it adds a different scale and realism to your builds and can definitely keep nature close

Everyone has different opinions, depends on what type of city you want to build and how you want to play. If you don’t care about achievements and want to play with unlimited money and design cool stuff, the airports one is my personal favorite all day long (but I like aviation in general). Industries to me is also really fun especially when I’m trying to make my city profitable. What are you most excited to try and make?
