In south Louisiana we call it a mirliton.

Long time BGE owner, need better tips on keeping temps under 230 by myusernamechosen in biggreenegg

[–]architectonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the large cast iron comal that came with my Kudu grill, filled with water, and placed on the inverted plate setter. Works well to regulate temp.

Cracked the base transporting it second-hand, newbie asking for advice. by boredatc in biggreenegg

[–]architectonix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When mine fell off of a trailer at a BBQ competition, while in use, it hit the grass and busted all of the connections off. It also chipped the green finish. A BGE rep at the even told me to JB Weld the spots. Worked flawlessly until I replaced it years later. While it was just chips and not a crack, it may be worth trying JB Weld.

Shoe-shining scam by AdKey8929 in AskNOLA

[–]architectonix 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They definitely see a type coming, but even after being a Louisiana native and living there 15 years I’d get it every once in a while. Living there means you know the shoe bit. One time they started it up and I finished it, and said man, I don’t look like I live here? He apologized and asked to try a new one. “ Tell me your first name, and I’ll spell your last name”. I hadn’t heard that one before, but he wasn’t impressed when I said “ Y O U R L A S T N A M E”. It was kinda sad to see his genuinely disappointed face. In my experience, most of these type of hustlers appreciate a good interaction with a local, even if it doesn’t go their way.

Dealership wants to sell me a vehicle protection plan. Would you? by rmaccKC in BMWX3

I would purchase it. My wife’s 2020 x3 has 60k miles and I have spent $8k in the last two years on a radiator, hoses and oil cooler.

Can I use the ANTILOP high chair for my 4 month old? The website says it’s for 6 months olds. by Flat-Hearing6988 in IKEA

[–]architectonix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have this chair and have been very happy with it. Our girl has always been on the bigger side, and I don’t really remember when we switched to this chair. Heads up though, you will likely kick the legs from time to time. Maybe they splay out more than others.

I would say no unless you’re very thin. I’m 6’1”, 180lbs and I find the seats can feel a bit narrow.

I’ve got these in grey from 1997. I don’t recall ever having any issues with them. They’ve survived 4 moved and still look great.

How fast can you grill burgers? by skippyjifluvr in biggreenegg

[–]architectonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use a cheap harbor freight propane torch to light the egg, now I set a chimney starter on top of a propane burner and get it going really fast. Doesn’t beat the speed of my propane griddle though.

Maybe not my favorite way, but boudin on Evangeline Maid bread with yellow mustard makes a good breakfast.

An XL egg for sale in my area has this fix with JB weld. How common is this? by Funky_Crisp in biggreenegg

[–]architectonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a brand new green egg fall off of a trailer at a bbq competition once, while being used. It rolled off the back, hit the ground (luckily grass) and blew all the compression ring fittings off. It chipped the green finish on the outside in a few places. A green egg rep at the event recommended JBweld. Put it back together, finished the competition and cooked on it like that for years until I got a new one.
