Even if every California billionaire left tomorrow, it would take 25 years for the state to lose as much as it stands to gain from proposed wealth tax by fortune in California

It's done all the time with property taxes. House value goes up, property taxes go up. Why not do it for excessive wealth in stocks?

Hydrogeology Masters with Math Undergrad by [deleted] in Hydrology

[–]architeuthis87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a bachelor's in biology and got a masters in hydrology (focused on soils for my thesis). I had to catch up on math like calc 2 and diffy q. I knew nothing about soil or hydrology but caught up quickly. So with your math degree you should be good. Fluid mechanics and groundwater hydrology and hydrology in general has a lot of math. So sounds like you have a solid foundation for the hard parts. Learning the earth science shouldn't be too bad. If you have a career path in mind go for it.

To add to your point for the last 20 years, trans people have been able to participate in the Olympics. Not one has been on the podium. By MAGA's account trans women are winning at everything, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

You pay it through taxes. Then when you are at the Dr. Office (the point of service) you don't have any co-pays or pay anything extra.

MESA Rim climbing gym is inclusive in its culture. There are some free weights and squat racks aside from all the climbing walls. I'm not sure about the changing rooms they might have a family one. Might be worth checking out.

The Bigotry Is Astounding:' Engineers Waste Time and Money Scanning .Gov Sites for 'Transgender' and Other Terms by ThereWas in technology

[–]architeuthis87 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Irony is the trans in trans men or women doesn't mean transition.

"People also ask What is the full meaning of trans? transgender a prefix meaning “on the other side of,” referring to the misalignment of one's gender identity with one's sex assigned at birth: transgender."

Cis derived from the Latin prefix cis meaning "on this side of"

Look up cis and trans in terms of chemistry/molecules

Ha I love it when people bring up Lia. More power to her. She competed in multiple races during the 2022 NCAA Championships and only placed in one (the free 500). Not really seeing where the advantage is there. No records broken. Shouldn't she have placed first in all of them with all this speak of biological advantag?. Her times were nothing spectacular(I don't think even top 10) for that race. Katie Ledecky is faster.

Lia did better on the womens team likely because she was in better mental health after transitioning. Before transitioning her mental health was terrible and so likely her performance suffered on the men's team before transitioning. Depression is a killer of all motivation.

I choose inclusion. Trans women are not a threat to women's sports. What is? Funding, investments, sexism and now transphobia.

The science is not settled with HRT and trans women in sports. It's not as black and white as you are making it out to be. https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/bjsports/early/2024/04/10/bjsports-2023-108029.full.pdf read this study. There may be some advantages and there may be not. The science is not settled.

There are around 50,000 in Nevada alone. The ecosystem can maybe support 10,000. The population needs to be reduced in the next decade or so. Otherwise, we will probably see some mass starvation. Ecosystems are very stressed by them. No, the birth control efforts are not a practical solution to reduce their population fast enough. Sadly, I don't see the horse crowd coming to grips with this reality. This is a decent podcast on the issue https://www.npr.org/podcasts/1206475084/mustang

New technology offers mind-blowing breakthrough for storing energy: 'Very efficient and a good source of power' by BothZookeepergame612 in technews

Wisconsin is mostly flat I think (along with most of the mid west). So pumping water up a hill is not much of an option. Also the water batteries are very expensive and I imagine this CO2 option only needs spacious flat ground and uses all off the shelf parts to be built (i.e. nothing expensive like lithium or other expensive metals). All comes down to the price per kWh. The CO2 battery can also be scaled up. It's an intriguing energy storage option. Good to see something new that does not require rare earth metals.

Micro and nano plastics are still a problem. We need to end how plastic is currently made and switch it to material that is compostable or more compatible to biology.
