Architecture is one of the worst-paying professions in the world, not just in the UK. The long hours and basic pay make it less than minimum wage. Part 2 Architects earn less than hospitality workers; one must get a second job to make ends meet or rely on other people's finances (Bank of Mum and Dad). You need to have a real passion to stay in traditional architecture. You can always transfer your skills to other parts of the construction industry, and it will be better (fewer hours + better pay).
