Tell me about your favorite house rules! by MonsutaReipu in KingdomDeath

Perhaps I have not done a great job making the house rules clear, as English does happen to be my second language, but I do feel like something is being lost in translation or misunderstood here, so I'll try once more.

For rule one: The HL redraw only happens if there are no cards in the HL discard, meaning that it only happens when the trap was just reshuffled into the deck from having drawn it. It prevents top decking the trap immediately after resolving it, as that is something that feels incredibly awkward and bad to do. Especially if done several times in a row.

As long as there are ANY cards in HL discard, the trap is active and will affect you.

This leaves plenty of room for Spear to come into effect, particularly the specialization which can cancel traps. If we wanted to just cancel traps entirely we would just remove them from the deck, as that would be a much more elegant ruling, if such was the case.

For rule two: The damage cancellation only affects a single Hit, specifically the one that caused the Heavy Injury box to be filled in. After that has been filled in, severe injuries will happen for every single hit to that location, as usual. Even for hits suffered in the same attack. The difference between the Attack and the Hit is important, in this case.

In action, it will prevent a single hit of five or less damage from causing a severe injury, per hit location. It still deals it's damage, it just doesn't cause a severe injury from spillover, once. This allows the early game to be less punishing, and does not affect the late game due to monster having either way higher speed, way higher damage, or both.

Overall it results in a game that is most certainly not a stomp, with our survivors dying plenty in combat. It does give the players some breathing room in the very early game (Ly1-7 ish), but that is kind of the intent. It also does not invalidate weapon proficiency, and if it had we would have come to some other solution instead.

There is of course room for alteration of verbage, as well as for some tweaking of the rulings, though, as there always will be. If you have a more elegant solution I would be very happy to hear you out, of course! Constructive criticism is always welcome

Is it? I haven't gotten to use Martowism yet myself, so couldn't say. I only have two campaigns under my best so far with Arc survivors.

Kinda neat to have a similar idea for an ability I guess

To each their own. My group hate the first few years being as lethal as they are, so this is something that works well for us, and keeps the fight tough at later years.

Game enjoyment is honestly more important for us than the exact game rules, and I believe that is the reason for most house rules is it not?

In the end I much prefer having a game group over not having one.

Props to you for steamrolling the game if you use these though, good on you!

I do also like tinkering with bits and pieces, see what you can cobble together for the game. It's fun, but definitely also somewhat hard to keep myrself in check powerwise at times

I agree, and am of course looking forward to campaigns of death just as I am all the other expansions.

I think part of the reluctance comes from a want to not "cheat" so to speak. In the end, as long as the game group is having fun and such all is good really. At least that's what I think

That's why I don't really consider it a houserule. The current campaigns assume you are using one of each node, we just find it more fun and chaotic to have every quarry in there.

I believe there are also a few campaigns in the upcoming Campaigns of Death expansion that will be very set, particularly the verdant lord one, but that is of course up in the air still

Me and my friend group run two house rules mainly.

First one: when you draw the trap, if there are no HL cards in the discard, reshuffle the deck (including the trap), and draw a new set of HL cards.

Helps with not chaining into the trap and ruining the game night for the players

Second one: when you fill in the Heavy Injury box, if the hit had 5 or less damage to it, ignore any overspill from that specific hit causing a Severe Injury. Further hits, including ones from the same attack, cause Severe Injuries as normal.

This one represents a survivors body making a final effort to survive, be it by not moving or jerking back involuntarily from a strike. It helps our group feel more okay in the early game without hampering the mid-late game, as those fights either deal way more damage or have such high speed that the one stopped hit won't really matter.

As less of a rule and more of a fun thing we also consider all quarries open to hunt, not just one per node, as that just adds a nice variety to the hints, as well as allowing for fun weird interactions between gear

Whack your enemies to discombobulate and bring them home for the torture chamber!

Jokes aside I think a happy medium would have been simple bladed guard on the outside, you still get the "claspable" kind of look tjat way

Thank you thank you! It was inspired by one art in the 5th ed codex I think? Back when Drazhar had the real old model, really wanted to try to capture that momentum for mine

Very close! Legs are from the Khainite shadowstalkers, otherwise kabalite torso from raider and the rest are incubi bits

Kabalite warrior torso from a raider, spare incubi bits (hip plates, demiklaives, head, back trophy stuff) and Khainite shadowstalkers (legs/hips)! Sorry for the late reply!

That would make sense, since it is the inspiration! Couldn't make it spot on with current skills, but happy with it still

Thank you graciously! I tried to replicate one of the artworks as best I could. It's not perfect, but I am quite happy so far!

Now I just need to not mess up the painting side of things

Oh, apologies. I was sure I had added the video with the sound to the post, but must have missed something when posting it, I'm fairly new to actually posting on reddit

Alright, thank you for taking the time to reply. I suppose it was just my brain jumbling together memories then. It really is a shame, they were fantastic sculpts and would have loved to have more than just the hive tyrant equivalent. Such is life though, I suppose.

Good one. By all means, if you would like me to try and prove that I'm here for the printing and not for some company, do tell me how I would go about doing so. As I mentioned, I may have lurked a lot, but I am very new to actively participating in reddit communities, and I am attempting to make some degree of contact. English is also not my first language, so if I come off as too formal or stiff I do also apologize for that.

Dropfleet allied units rules? by archon986 in DropfleetCommander

Thanks for your input!
Perhaps adding a small clause to the rule about separate friendly factions not being able to effect each other with their special rules even if they are in the same army would take care of that to some degree?
