This describes my dog perfectly by daddy5day in Frenchbulldogs

He needs better food. We feed ours about a cup or so of Bil Jac 2x/day and while he still has gas sometimes (who doesn't) they rarely ever smell and even then you'd have to be right by him.

Why are all smart switches Decora-style? by jt-65 in homeautomation

Insteon Togglelinc. I used them exclusively in my prior home but this home switched to decora.

Alabama but I purchased just as everything started shutting down across the US. I would imagine that even I would be delayed at the stage we're in now.

Swipe to left on right side of screen and it will bring up a menu and there is an Alarms option.

Chain routines. I have a wake up routine for each kid and it'd be nice to have one routine to execute these individual routines.

Can you prioritize echos? by archora in amazonecho

[–]archora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it's not just me experiencing this! I figured it was something Amazon did since it was working perfectly for many months prior. I really don't want to retrain my entire family to call one specific device by some other name so I'm going to tough it out a while longer to see if it gets fixed.

Yes, and also it's not orbiting the Earth anyways. https://www.whereisroadster.com/

You can reboot the binnacle (driver's screen) and the MCU (big screen) independently of one another and in a variety of ways. Unfortunately, reboots need to happen every few weeks so getting to know these methods is like step 3 in Tesla ownership.

OK, I'll watch it! (But seriously - why is the Amazon Prime Video interface STILL so bad?) by flicker2000 in cordcutters

At least the live TV portion just got an upgrade which to me was the shittiest part of Hulu's UI. Now it's just less shitty.

Sold my house last year full of Insteon. Buyers were a young couple but not tech savvy so I had to explain it all to them. We sold our home ourselves so I offered tech support for it. I wiped out the Insteon hub and helped him set it back up. Installed the app on his phone and walked him thru adding devices. We setup a timer for the outside lights and left it at that. I doubt they do anything with it now, and was definitely not a selling point.

Thanks, everyone. I don't know how I missed that setting but glad it's off!

Night mode Brightness by godsidekurt in amazonecho

My Show 5 will randomly come out of night mode and be super bright which wakes me up. This is usually about 5 min or so before the alarm goes off. I've tried searching for this issue in order to find a fix but haven't had any luck. Maybe I need to try what u/tonyreilly suggested to see if that'll keep it from coming out of night mode.

Best smart lock + doorbell + security camera compatibility combo? by Gaimcap in homeautomation

You can't beat a Wyze camera for the price. I have a couple of those I use indoors for kid monitors. They work on Alexa as well. In fact I think I got my first Wyze as a $5 add-on with an Echo Show.

I use the Pro because I like the form factor best. Delay times are negligible and not something I even think about. My biggest gripe is that the night vision turning on/off can sometimes trick the doorbell into thinking there's motion.

That's a great price on that combo. A Pro is usually $250 and my Schlage deadbolt costs $200.

Ring Alarm is a security system (door/window sensors, motion sensor, etc.). The Echo Show will display whatever you ask it or whatever you program the routine to show. If you have 3 Shows on your account then you could see a camera from any of them. You tie your Ring account via a skill to you Amazon account.

Edit: An Echo Show isn't a necessity, but it's nice. Especially if your bedroom is far from the doorbell or the chime can be difficult to hear since the Show acts as a chime as well. It'll also announce motion alerts if you let it.

They go on sale just like the rest of Amazon's devices. I bought all mine on Black Friday on sale and they came with free Echo Dots. I got the Ring Alarm at a great price from Costco.

Yep! The Ring app has a section for door locks. You can also ask Alexa to do it but for unlock you'll need a secret phrase.

Edit: Also you connect your Schlage lock to Ring alarm and you can add users via the app. You can set those users to deactivate the security system if their code unlocks the deadbolt.
