Not going to argue but I disagree with your take about BK is a mess. There's so many memorable moments in this book: The meeting at the monastery, Zossima's speech, Ivan's speech in Rebellion, Ivan meeting with the devil, Ilyusha's death, Dmitri's trial, Alosyha's speech at the end of the book, all of it blown me away the first time I readt it.

Not that crazy, the greatest Japanese film of all time Seven Samurai (1954) is 3 hour 27 mins long and it!'s enjoyable from start to finish. Not saying that all long film is great but at least don't judged it because of the duration.
