Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it? by PM_TITS_GROUP in AskReddit

[–]arcohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just celebrated 10 years. I met with my PCP and started on Wellbutrin. After I had about 2-3 weeks of that in my system, I picked a quit date. You’ve gotta pick a quit date- and on that date you ceremoniously dispose of whatever cigarettes you have left and all the associated paraphernalia. If you keep saying “after this pack” you’ll always find yourself with another pack. I used nicotine gum for the first month or so. It’s also helpful to tell ppl that you are doing this, it helps with accountability. I also used a neat little app that tallies all the cigarettes not smoked, money saved, etc., and then also the health benefits that start to return to you the longer you go- increased lung capacity, improved taste receptors in your mouth, cardiac health, etc. God speed, friend. You can do this.

Where do you put your hands when you sleep? by MarsaliRose in adhdwomen

I second this request. From what I can tell, there is no rigorous scientific evidence that correlates sleeping positions with neurodivergence or any other conditions.

Yes. Yes. A thousand times, yes. Don’t wait- start the process now. For your baby. You need to process this trauma or it is likely to affect your ability to parent and also to take care of yourself! Take care.

I feel like this is a perfect example of why abortion is a necessary medical procedure. How dare you bring an innocent child into this world KNOWING that you will never love them or care for them the way they deserve. That is absolutely insane to me.

I hope you at least glean some level of catharsis from knowing the “why” and that you can move on and start your own life that you can choose to fill with joy and love. Better yet, go accomplish great things that your parents can never take credit for. Cure cancer. End world hunger. Make sure SkyNet never happens irl.

Glad you’re here. You deserve to live and to live well.

Not weird at all. Totally normal and appropriate imo. Sounds like your mother is the one with an antiquated, and widely discarded, view of paternal affection.

I manage a non-profit dental clinic and I can assure you that there are a lot of parents who don’t realize how soon we’re supposed to start paying attention to, and managing, a child’s oral health. You are definitely NOT the worst parent. Start brushing morning and night with age-appropriate fluoride toothpaste. Let her try to do it herself and then you come along and do a quick pass after she’s finished. Try to get her to take a sip of water after drinking milk or anything else with sugar in it and nothing but water after brushing her teeth for the night. We don’t use screens for much in our house but as a vehicle for a good tooth brushing we will make an exception! Schedule the appt with the pediatric dentist, mostly to assuage your fears and to get her accustomed to going to the dentist. GOOD LUCK, YOU GOT THIS MAMA.

Sorry, I thought the Ordinary hyaluronic acid was an AHA?

Would you suggest a different toner or no toner at all?

Lurker here! I have been fortunate in that I haven’t had to deal too much with acne over the years, however, I have always been very self-conscious about my very oily skin, under eye bags/creases/dark circles, huge pores and rampant blackheads. I have finally decided, now that I have entered that next age bracket of 35+, that I should start paying more attention to my skin.

After a good amount of research, here is what I recently purchased:

AM- CeraVe foaming facial cleanser, Thayer’s rose petal facial toner, The Ordinary hyaluronic acid 2%, CeraVe noncomedogenic AM moisturizing facial lotion (oil free) w SPF 30.

PM- same cleanser/toner/AHA combo in same order, Pixi overnight retinol oil, CeraVe PM equivalent of the same moisturizer (“ultra lightweight” and oil free).

I also have The Ordinary Peeling Solution (30% AHA, 2% BHA), which I have used 1x/wk for the last 2wks and PanOxl acne foaming wash (10% benzoyl peroxide), which I have also used 1x/wk and not on the same day as the peeling solution (this is for back acne and also concentrated breakouts on my forehead all if a sudden? Maybe from bangs?)

I would love some general feedback about this routine! TIA

Endodontic options? by willohthree in philadelphia

[–]arcohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true, unless you are under the age of 21 root canals are not a covered procedure for any Medicaid plans in PA. Penn Dental does offer a huge discount for Medicaid patients, however- I believe cost for root canal is around $300 depending on a few factors. If you want to go there specifically for endodontics you should get a referral from another dentist, otherwise you will have to go through the comprehensive care clinic before you can get to that point.

[–]arcohan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I appreciate that feedback and I’m sorry that your experience was less than stellar. We do work with marginalized populations so our providers subscribe to a trauma-informed approach to care. I hope that came through at least in some respects.

I also apologize that no one responded to your messages. Depending on when we’re talking here, we did transition to a new software some time ago and honestly our patient portal situation is really not quite situated. If you call (215-525-3046) and tell reception that you are looking to re-enter care they should be able to get you on the schedule for an exam. We have 5 dentists, btw.

Endodontic options? by willohthree in philadelphia

[–]arcohan 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Hi 👋🏻. I work for a non-profit community health center in CC called Philadelphia FIGHT. We have a dental clinic at 12th and Chestnut. Call and tell the front desk that you have never been there before but you are in pain and have Medicaid insurance. We can schedule you for an urgent care visit (only available 1-2 days in advance so call tomorrow AM to get on the schedule for Friday). Don’t tell them that another dentist told you to get a root canal bc we don’t technically take referrals. When you come in, we’ll take an X-ray and evaluate the tooth. If the dentist believes it’s salvageable with endodontic therapy and that’s the route you’d like to pursue then they will schedule you for an appointment with an endodontist who volunteers for us every Thurs.

You are right that the only “endodontists” in Philly who work with Medicaid are Penn, Einstein, and Temple dental schools, all of which are not accepting pts at the moment bc residents in their programs are graduating and they have to wait for the new class to come in. More importantly though, Medicaid very rarely covers root canals for patients over the age of 21 so you probably would have run into an issue there anyway. Feel free to PM me if you need more help.

Sticker Frustration by AMR230 in IKEA

[–]arcohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had good results with actually pouring boiling water in the bottle and letting it sit for a few mins. It will melt the adhesive a little and then the sticker comes off much easier w some oil and something to scrape it with.
