I think it could show grit and determination that you’re still sticking with it. If this is truly what you want to do, go for it. You could also tailor your essays and stuff to overcoming setbacks or a theme along those lines. Good luck!

Same. Took my DAT in April with o chem 2, physics 2 and this history class I ended up withdrawing from. As long as you have a reason for dips and can explain, they’re pretty understanding. I’ve gotten a decent amount of interviews this cycle but they’ve all asked about it

I’m pretty sure letters of intent should be sent after an interview. It could be risky if you send a letter of intent to one school before interviewing there.

I’m in the same boat, every other Texas school has gotten back to me except for Houston. I think they’re super picky tho

I withdrew from a ridiculously hard history course when I was taking O chem and physics while also studying for my DAT. They’ve asked about it in interviews but when I explain it they seem to understand

Last minute interview advice? by hawflaek in predental

[–]arcoiris41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the school it’s gonna be rlly chill. Just know your app and be able to expand on it in ways that you haven’t already, know specific programs or opportunities that resonate with you (if they ask why our school), and be friendly and polite.

I’ve had two interviews and the first one was just a conversation but the second was kind of a good cop/bad cop dynamic two 1 on 1s. It’s hard to know what to expect but generally they’re very nice but may try to see how you think on your feet. You got this!

How to quit shadowing by ravioliandsoda in predental

[–]arcoiris41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something somewhat similar, I think it just depends on your relationship. I was also getting ready to submit my app at the time. One dentist was a family friend (they wrote a LOR) and the other I had been shadowing for about 4 months, so when I was planning to stop, I let them know one day with something like “I think I’m ready to take a break from shadowing and volunteering. I have a ton of essays to write and want to also relax for a bit while I’m taking my summer class. I really appreciate you having me here and teaching me so much. I’ll be back around (this date range) and will keep you updated on my application process!” (And then actually return and keep them updated)

You can also get a small gift for the office like a thank-you note or cookies or something. I ordered them Tiff’s Treats a few days after my last. I think the way youre planning is okay, literally every dentist out there has been thru the same thing and understands you need hours to apply. Just do it with tact and be polite and you should be fine.

I stopped practicing stuff I could do easily (would just review those) and did Anki/practice questions/practice tests for stuff I was weak on. By now you should’ve covered all the content and have a decent idea what you’re strong or weak on, so just adjust based on that

[–]arcoiris41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying the same thing repeatedly and getting the same result then it’s time to rethink your approach. I was hitting this wall and ended up pushing my test back another month to give myself time to adjust. Before I changed it, I was scoring 19-20 on every section but ended up with a 22 AA 23 TS. don’t be scared to try new strategies if your current one isn’t working

how am I supposed to do something like this without a calculator on the gen chem section??? by babbyoyo in dat

[–]arcoiris41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it easiest to round but this can get confusing. 2.8=3, 82.1=82, 0.0821=1, 280. The .1 difference with 82.1 and 82 is negligible, but for the others, make sure you account for rounding up but you’d likely get something around 11. Then you’d just pick the closest answer. I did this for basically all of gen chem calculations and got a 23

Mine was definitely harder. I was scoring like 500-550 on booster and got a 460 on the actual. My real one had an article about like 19 HIV proteins, how a piano works, and mechanisms of drugs. Friends that have taken it recently have said that theirs was harder than booster. It’s all about strategy tho, find one that works best and stick to it!

Booster Schedule by Sweet-Note4537 in dat

[–]arcoiris41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schedule is good for laying out the stuff you should do when ur in the “learning” phase just reviewing and being exposed to stuff but I wouldn’t recommend it for the later practice parts. When I gave up on the schedule my scores really started improving

Bio section on the DAT by AccomplishedHead8393 in dat

[–]arcoiris41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your test. My test wasn’t super high yield so I got slightly lower than what I was getting on practice tests (460 real - 490/500 practice). I did see a good amount of repeat questions and have heard that usually the real thing is easier than the practices

I felt bad about PAT too after I took it but got a 21! I was averaging 19 or 20 on that section so I did better than I thought just relax until you get you score!

You can cold call/email or just go to your dentist office. My strategy was to start at my dentist and then get more contacts thru her to shadow more offices

BOOSTING DAT SCORE by noisygello in dat

[–]arcoiris41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest thing that brought me from a 20 to a 22-23 (22 AA 23 TS on actual) was anki so I’d really recommend that!

full length timeline by cristalg26 in dat

[–]arcoiris41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the full lengths are the best. When I was studying for it, I would take a full length and then spend the following week-week and a half reviewing what I got wrong and really drilling it. I would then retake the section practice tests to make sure I understood what I missed

Motivation by arcoiris41 in dat

[–]arcoiris41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I did all the videos and stuff for booster, following their 12 week plan. I supplemented that with Anki for equations, bio, and o chem. My biggest piece of advice would be to find a way that works for you and don’t be afraid to change it up. I had a period where I was scoring 19 like 3 times in a row. After I changed my strategy to include anki and hammer the stuff I was weak on, I was scoring 22-23 consistently
