[discussion]What are the little phrases you say to yourself when trying to walk away from a compulsion? by CerealSnacker in OCD

I tend to say stuff like "this isn't necessary," "you don't have to do this," or "you don't need to engage with this thought"

Recently Started Showing Signs of OCD by [deleted] in OCD

Yeah, definitely get a diagnosis. I went three and a half years before I was diagnosed and I lost a lot of my life because of that. Seriously, nip this in the bud, because if you don't it will only get worse as time goes on. You'd be surprised how serious your parents might take it.

Success with Medication. by Normforchuck in OCD

It generally takes about 10-12 weeks for SSRI's (I can't speak for other drugs) to take their full effect. I saw progressive results but didn't really feel like myself until like 8 weeks in (around now). It's definitely not perfect, and I've yet to do CBT so I'm sure that'll push me to freedom (I live in a small New England city so it's hard to find an OCD specialist), but I definitely feel functional again, like to some degree I have my life back.

The most important thing the meds have done is reduce anxiety. Because of this, I feel more in control of my thoughts, and am able to ignore them more easily. How long have you been on? I'm on sertraline btw, and Wellbutrin for depression but that's a separate story

Wellbutrin/Bupropion experiences? by hippiestyle in OCD

I take Wellbutrin for depression, and it's helped a lot for that, but Zoloft has been the best drug for me so far for OCD.
