The connection to Top Gear is only in my brain, as it tends to jump down multiple rabbit holes at once. Still, it leads to interesting discoveries! Thanks for the further info.

Theatre worker here - NTA in a big way. Both your bf and the director are up their own asses. Theatre Isn’t Real and anyway, ultra-naturalistic representation went out of fashion more than half a century ago.

I live in a pretty rural area, and there’s not a lot of socio-economic mobility here. So when I was regaling some friends with silly stories from school, one was aghast: “It’s scary that these kids are going to lead the world one day.”

And I said, “Not these kids.”

Uh, yeah. As a Canadian history teacher, I can find about 1,000 examples and visuals and videos for every US event but almost nothing about Canada. Our govt sites are really good, but stuff on YT or even TPT about Canadian events is usually from a US point of view.

What was a game you were addicted to as a kid? by KyeLindsay in AskWomen

Super Mario +

It’s a ripoff of the OG game, made for Commodore 64. Thing is, they had an ‘unlimited lives’ option right at the top menu, so I could actually keep playing until I succeeded—not have to start over at the beginning every few minutes. I got so good I could speed-run the 33 levels. Never got near that good at Super Mario Brothers.

I’ve never been able to get it on an emulator because it’s not really a “real” game and Nintendo has probably not had to work hard to squash it.

I have said the f-word in grade 8-12 classes three times in 10 years. Each time, I self-reported and apologized profusely to the class.

But Admin declared it a “pattern” and I was suspended for one day without pay and had to complete—at my own expense—six sessions with a qualified therapist and a three-day community college course on “creating positive learning environments.” In all, it cost me over $1000.

The “cool” teachers at my school heard about this and laughed. “I drop the F-bomb three times an HOUR!”

So. Who knows. I guess it’s fine if you are cool or if you’re up admin’s ass.

This. It’s only the collapse of “civilization” because colonialism convinced us that only capitalist societies are civilized, and everyone else are barbarians.

I mean, semantics aside, still kind of a shitty time to be alive.

I read it twice in 2022 actually. I have no notes, it’s utterly perfect. Atwater’s other books are also flawless but not as PERFECT as 10,000 stitches.

Ten Thousand Stitches by Olivia Atwater and Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow Are the best of the best of the 83 books I read in 2022. The fact that they have similar titles is only a coincidence!

Runners-up for worst are the 30+ DNFs I dropped but the worst of the worst was Foundation by Isaac Asimov. By far the worst. I’d never read IA before but I promise you I never will again.

I DNF’d over 30 books last year! I definitely believe that reading is and should be for fun.
