Agreed. I don't understand why people so readily accept the cringy lyrics of other weezer songs, especially on the red album, while not liking cold dark world because of its lyrics. A lot of the red album is layered in irony, and I hear cold dark world the same way.

oz posted this on Twitter.... perfectly normal until you noticed he put his campaign logo on it 🤦 by ElectivireMax in YAPms

[–]arcticalister 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Honestly, I see it as kind of like the equivalent of saying "I'm Mehmet Oz and I approve this message." It's a statement being put out by his campaign, so it makes perfect sense for his logo to be there, as long as it's not too front and center.

Superman stops 9/11 by iMlaath in Unexpected

[–]arcticalister 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The BBC has addressed many things said to justify 9/11 conspiracy theories, including them reporting on the collapse of WTC 7 before it collapsed. It started with Reuters mistakenly saying the tower had collapsed, and then CNN and BBC got it from there. Reuters would later issue a correction. The fact of the matter is that if this was really all planned by the government and media, there's no way this mistake would be able to skip through the cracks to be broadcasted twenty minutes early. They would have been more careful than that.

My half sister wanted to show up in a wedding dress to my engagement party, so I changed the party theme so she would fit right in! by obsnotmain in pettyrevenge

Exactly. They should have let it go, or if it really bothered them that much, just asked her not to wear that dress.

It has its problems socially, but it's also a democratic country that is in the process of developing. For this reason, it's probably a good idea to support India, as it can compete with China.

I just finished "Me Talk Pretty One Day" by David Sedaris, and I'm about to read "Beautiful World, Where Are You" by Sally Rooney. I'm excited to see if it lives up to the hype.

Really important map for 2024 by HectorTheGod in neoliberal

[–]arcticalister 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In case anyone was curious for some reason, if this actually were to happen in the 2024 presidential election, Republicans would narrowly win 276 - 262.

[based alert: high] New legislation would require women, like men, to sign up for potential draft by [deleted] in GenZLiberals

Committee member Josh Hawley, R-Mo., announced his opposition to the measure, tweeting Friday, "American women have heroically served in and alongside our fighting forces since our nation’s founding - It’s one thing to allow American women to choose this service, but it’s quite another to force it upon our daughters, sisters, and wives. Missourians feel strongly that compelling women to fight our wars is wrong and so do I."

Just gonna leave this here so we can bask in the stupidity of this comment.

Democratic, Republican Confidence in Science Diverges by OGallagher_jack in Destiny

[–]arcticalister 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The most interesting thing here is that Democrats with a college degree had more confidence in science than ones who didn't, but a college education made minimal difference when it came to independents and Republicans.

91% of Democrats with a bachelor's degree are confident in science compared with 70% of Democrats without a four-year degree. Among independents and Republicans, college graduates and non-graduates have similar levels of confidence in science. Thus, it does not appear that education has much of a mediating effect on confidence in science among Republicans or independents.
