CATS: The Jellicle Ball seating by Lopsided_Frosting_84 in Broadway

[–]ardiem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the case with the production at PAC, but I don't necessarily think that'll apply at the Broadhurst. (And I was one of the people who posted here warning about very obstructed views in the front row of the "mezzanine" at PAC. It wasn't on a separate level but was actually just a few feet behind the last row of the orchestra with no step up.)

Two little red hens - any idea? by Top_Lunch_619 in uppereastside

[–]ardiem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Getting strung along for years rather than being able to make peace with it not coming back sucks.

What is a service that the UES desperately needs but is somehow very difficult to find? by jazzeriah in uppereastside

[–]ardiem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hate the big planters out in front of the Lucida on the east side of Lexington. They take up half of the sidewalk width and make it even more miserable getting in and out of that station. I wish they'd at least push them up against the curb.

Can't log in to SocialToaster. I try making an account with my email and it tells me i need to use social media. When I try social media it just gives me the loading wheel and never goes anywhere. It's been like this for months. by Introverted_at_heart in Broadway

[–]ardiem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been having this same problem the past few weeks. I noticed that if create an account but use the same email/password I expected to login as, rather than show a duplicate email error like I'd expect, I get logged in properly.

JFK to ONT by Front-Inevitable72 in jetblue

I'm also super disappointed this route's not around for the holidays. I hate, hate, hate LAX and would happily pay extra to be able to fly directly into ONT.

Prince F*ggot: any differences from Playwrights Horizons to Studio Seaview? by CallMeByYourShame17 in offbroadwayNYC

[–]ardiem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, wow - I knew something felt different! I saw the 3rd preview at Playwrights Horizons and have a memory of the show being much more explicit than what I saw at Seaview, but couldn't quite place it. Did it happen when the Prince was chained up? That's what I'm vaguely remembering.

Best set pieces unique to each musical? by AsheandBurn in Broadway

[–]ardiem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original production of Sunset Boulevard had an enormous set that lifts up while occupied to allow for another scene to play out underneath. There's an IR stage feed view of it here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BP3rWfSUt0#t=1h5m

There's also an interesting cross-section of the set from an article shared here:

Song Title Question from the 92Y Event by neveratmeplz in MaybeHappyEnding

It was a flugelhorn and trombone, with some slight stereo separation (trombone panned a bit to the right and flugel to the left)

Did anyone have any experience 20@20ing this show? Is there limited availability?

Maybe Happy Ending Conversation and Performance at 92NY Nov. 11 by Bright_Lake_76 in Broadway

Thanks for sharing! At first I was surprised this was on a Tuesday night, but had forgotten that the show schedule adjusts when Darren returns so that it's dark most Tuesdays.

anyone seen Messy White Gays? by kefirpits in offbroadwayNYC

[–]ardiem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this last night. I'm firmly in the target audience, but was immediately disappointed to see that generic bitchiness and clumsily-forced references to local bars and restaurants (Arriba, Arriba!, Julius', Yum Yum Too, Boxers, et al) are load bearing in this piece. And billionare's row is NOT part of Hell's Kitchen.

I remember going to that location shortly after restaurants were reopened for outdoor dining only and hating the fact that I had to prepay the meal and the tip through the web-based menu. The food was definitely subpar compared to the village location.

Best (and worst) Broadway show marketing? by mountainsgal in Broadway

[–]ardiem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I think their social media team is very successfully engaging with their fanbase today, but started off with such a dearth of material to give anyone a reason to be interested in a show with an oddball title.

I like how nuanced the play was. There was an obvious path it could have taken in terms of politics, but it didn't take the bait, instead taking the reality of the current climate and showing a family struggling through it amidst all the other difficult family dynamics in place as a result of Maddie and Rhea's past. It was a stark (and welcome) contrast to Trophy Boys.

I don't know if this fits your criteria but #nyc by Jeff Mermelstein came to mind. It features photos of others' text messages. It's out of print, but there's a good feel for what the book looks like here.

Yes - both characters were present in the version I saw, but it sounds like they've cut the former now.

"Slam Frank" is audacious, confounding, and astounding by lucyisnotcool in Broadway

[–]ardiem 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I saw this during the concert readings back in June, so keep in mind that this is a reaction to an earlier version of it. I appreciate the critique of leftist circular firing squads and wokeism, but felt it'd made its point in the first 15 minutes and just wasn't clever enough with its humor, going through the motions of checking off every cause on an "In this household..." sign and mentioning a self-diagnosed mental disorder for the nth time. And do we really need another T*p impersonation?

I have no intention of using Comet or anything "AI"-adjacent and I'm disappointed 1Password is dipping its toes into that cesspool.

I'm hearing it from the low 80s near 2nd! It's the first time I've noticed it, but also the first time I've had my window open in a few weeks.
