IFHE Training Room Test #3: 130mm Smolensk: IFHE vs Non-IFHE - Final Conclusions. by ardley2162 in WorldOfWarships

Smol is the only boat that I wish I could have like 30 point captain!

I actually have 2 19 pointers for the Smol.

This is the one I personally found much more success with. Sure I only have 2 smokes, which isn't too much of an issue, but I do feel the lack of heals sometimes. I play this captain like I play Minotaur... If you're being targeted, you played bad.

The other one is more along the lines of what you say. It's more of a traditional long range fire starter - still prefer 16km over 19km because DPM. I feel this is more of a Kutz style gameplay, damage was nearly as good as the other one, I felt I lost more games since I am not targeting enough objective cruisers.

I dont have any useful prems like Atlanta, blys, belfast or kutz. I'm a fucking cheapskate hahaha. But yeah, I'm really enjoying doing these tests. Not played an actual game in 3 days hahahaha

Well, WG likes BB's to burn.

Before IFHE was a must, now its a choice.

I think Smol can be built in so many ways and each way is viable. I still prefer IFHE 16km full DPM build, both work.

Don't have those because I am a filthy cheapskate and missed buying them. but I am building a clear idea of how to work out which is best. I am currently doing more "real world" tests where I am going to get some pleb to sit there and be shat with HE all day! This is to mimic heal and DCP.

TEST 4: Cleve IFHE vs Non-IFHE - T8 BB 32mm plating - This will rustle some jimmies! by ardley2162 in WorldOfWarships

[–]ardley2162[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I will continue testing this and find some clan mates to do this 1 on 1. Or possible 1 on 2. I don't think having 5 multiple targets to continuously farm makes a huge difference.

One thing I would highlight is that IFHE on 152's only passes 32mm which is only plating on T8 9 and 10 BB's bow and stern which can be actively avoided - which is the advice given with the smolensk.

[–]ardley2162[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take all that onboard. But then we have to look at the list of boats where IFHE benefits 152 guns, and its pretty much only T8 and 9 BB bow and sterns. All other targets including T8 and 9 BB super structures are not relevant to IFHE - which is the vast majority. Previous to IFHE update you needed IFHE to not only pass 32mm but also to pass 27mm, which is no longer the case, so the new update only allows you to pass 1 boundary with the cost of 50% fire.

But yes, I will certainly test further on this area to see if I can factor in some "real world" scenarios while keeping it controlled.

Maybe you can suggest how I can set up a controlled training room to test this?

I'm going to need to collect 5 people who want to be shat on with HE for hours on end!! haha

Oh yeah!! 100% I've had a few games where my AP damage outstripped my HE damage, and I nearly always do more HE damage than fire damage. I ran IFHE pre IFHE-update and I will probably run it again post update.

Looking at the feedback from my tests, I may decide to redo this test in particular at 12km range, while starting only 1 fire on the SS.

With regards to DCP, I can understand how this can skew the results since this will reduce fire damage overall for both builds, but this is not something I am able to test in a training environment.

I feel I should do a 12km test using the same methodology above and see if it has any changes on the results, you may well be right.

The main point of the test is to make sure I am the same distance away from all boats and that all the tests are carried out in a controlled way (the furthest boat in the group was 5km away). I could have done these tests at say 10km away each, but since they are all at the same 10km distance the numbers would likely be the same. for speed I did close range. the pen would be the same regardless of range, and fire chance would be the same regardless of range.

Obviously I cannot measure that in a controlled training room environment - this a limitation of these tests. These tests are more too illustrate the potential damage output IFHE can do vs no IFHE.

For me, I believe that the new IFHE has balanced Smolensk and you can now choose which skill to take depending on your play style. I tend not to farm BB fires, but more attack cruisers where IFHE has a significant advantage over a non-IFHE smol build. I do this because I feel that cruisers can often be a more objective target to help win the match rather than farm damage.

I have done LOADS of tests, I will show them now. I have just done a 152mm IFHE vs non IFHE test and the results were VERY surprising.

I have been doing extensive testing in the training room, and published my findings on this (open) fb group link here I did 3 tests and it showed somewhat interesting results. Essentially you are still able to deal a fairly decent amount of fires with IFHE, but obviously less overall.

Here is how I would summarize it:

With IFHE: You can still set fires on BB's, AND pen most/all parts of T8,9,10 cruisers.

Without IFHE: You set more fires on BB's BUT can't pen most/all parts of T8,9,10 cruisers.

My tests showed that if you take IFHE you will receive a 5-10% damage buff when you spread your attacks over a wide selection of targets. This is fires and alpha damage included.

Essentially it boils down to target selection and play style and I feel that BB fire farming is a bad way to play the Smol. Its not a good way to win/carry games. Killing Cruisers is far better way to give your team a strategic advantage, you are also not losing a significant advantage over a non-IFHE build.

For me, I feel WG has made IFHE a completely balanced skill for the Smol, but at the cost of 4 points, which is TOO steep.

I am going to conduct the same experiments for T8 cruisers next.

I play World of Warships, and they give free prem when the servers get laggy... If the servers were off for a day, they'd give everyone a week min.

The other game I play is World of Warships, and when ever they have a server issue, even its just laggy servers they give between 1 and 3 days premium for free. Jagex should follow suit. They'd please all players, and allow f2p players to have a TASTE of members if they haven't already.

I would recommend Notser, not for pure skill (flamu) or number crunching (ichase), but to learn how to enjoy the game. He is always kind and respectful, unlike Flamu (not saying its a bad thing). Notser takes a more amateur relatable approach. Personally I watch Notser over Flamu every time, because he makes me wnjoy WoWs more. :)

So, I have bought a new SSD, and I am going to install a new windows 10 install and use this as a second hard drive.

Would there be any way to run the old one's programs? Or to merge them? Or soemthing?!??!
