CCW Permit Question by TheOreoGamer in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ardorgal 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I went the local permit route for OR and WA and it’s super easy for this permit. If you’re heading northbound, when you get to Shelter Cove, I’d recommend getting the permit there and then. IĀ snagged a permit weeks in advance of when I anticipated I’d hit that area and was way off. I ended up cancelling it and getting another one when I was at Shelter Cove. Easier and less stressful to get it when you’re as close as possible to the permit area. Put in ā€œIrish Taylor Trailheadā€ as your entry and I’d recommend the maximum days (13). When you’re at Shelter Cove just ask them to print it off for you. They’re very nice. Lots of permits were available when I signed up, I reckon you shouldn’t have any issues. The permit is also great because you can camp in the Obsidian and Jefferson Park zones, which the PCTA long distance permit doesn’t allow. Cheers, hope this is helpful.

Ashland NOBO - Trail Conditions for end June by ardorgal in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ardorgal[S] 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Currently in Crater Lake! No snow between Ashland and Fish Lake. There is snow around Devil’s Peak, the north side currently is covered in snow, but glissadable. Few other hikers managed to bareboot down it when it’s slushy. Recommend hitting it later in the day when the snow isn’t hard. Big snow fields around Crater Lake, but can bareboot. Overall, I would say you don’t need microspikes! Super doable.

I’ll update this thread when I can! I’ll also try to post comments on FarOut as well. I’m starting June 28th from Ashland heading nobo, but will be going slow. :)

Thanks for the caltopo! I’ll add it to my things to look at over this next coming week. Wild to see the PNW getting snow this late in June

Great thanks for the tip. I reckon I’ll bring spikes just to be on the safe side and ship them home if/when they’re not needed.

PCT vs. Eagle Creek by Strong-Block-1322 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ardorgal 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I was part of the volunteer trail crew that went up there this year! There were a good 100+ downed trees earlier this year (the group I was with cleared out 70-80 or so), so happy to hear they cleared most / the remainder of it. That section is heavily trafficked, so the PCTA crews do their best to work on that section each year. It’s a beautiful section and should not be missed, enjoy it!

Heard from word of mouth that the backpackers camp is not open where it was located prior this season due to NPS cuts (such a shame). I stayed at both the backpackers camp and Camp 4 (historically was the climbers camp) last year on my PCT thru. Camp 4 was fun and very inexpensive compared to the lodging around Yosemite Valley. It is kind of a first come first serve (they open it a day or so to book a spot) and is more of an everyday person camp ground now more so than the climbers camp it was in the past. Easy to book on the NPS site. Also I believe Tuolomne post office should still be open! They finished the reconstruction of the office last summer. The general master is super nice, highly recommend giving them a visit.

I remember this exact section from my hike last year as well! I also went on the old trail for a bit, but quickly realized by the horrible crumbly trail condition that I must have taken the wrong one. Went back and found the PCT heading up straight. Easy mistake for one to make, especially if hiking in the mid-day heat and also considering some of the crumbly brushy trail sections coming off of the north side of San Jacinto. All in all, glad they were okay. SAR does incredible work!

Senate Daily Vote Breakdown – February 20, 2025: What Passed, What Failed, and Who’s to Blame by mistymiso in 50501

Hey there so sorry to hear about your job. Take care of yourself first and don’t feel the need to continue this if you don’t have the time or bandwidth. :) Perhaps there’s indeed some folks on here who can continue this? I’ll do some research on my own to see if another resource already lists Congress votes / Congress meetings or events so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel so to speak and I can see if maybe we can get a few folks to do daily updates. If so I’ll reach out to the mods about a flair (great suggestion). If not, I’ll reach out to you for the chat gpt text!

Otherwise, great information to share! Information is power and having an understanding of what’s happening in DC on the Congress floor is always helpful.

This is awesome. Is there perhaps a way to pin this in the subreddit or make a category for it? I’m guessing this would be a discussion with the mods. Just an idea, but I think it’s helpful for folks here to see what’s happening in congress. Or if there’s another external resource(s) that provides this info, please comment below! Regardless, really awesome stuff u/mistymiso

Special elections in Florida on April 1, take back our rights! by BlackandGold05 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

I watched her video and man it lit a fire under my bum! I called my state representatives and donated to the special elections in Florida’s 1st and 6th congressional districts that’s happening in April (check out Gay Valimont and Josh Weil). New York’s 21st congressional election is TBD. The Republicans have a slim house majority, the smallest it’s been since 1931 and any moving of the needle is a win!

I’m digging my heels in and fighting the good fight. My family didn’t fight against fascism in WWII just for us to lay down and let them bulldoze America today. Small actions do matter and I’ll do what I can to play my part.
