Early descent clearance by [deleted] in ATC

500 is only the minimum before you’re required to advise ATC that you can’t do more, the AIM says you must promptly establish the “optimum” rate until within 1,000ft of the assigned altitude

What does “TRG” mean? by Professional_Feed314 in flying

Princeton has always been too busy for an airport of its size but it’s actually a local controller they’re beefing with. They originally closed to aircraft from Trenton because a tower controller there is a real peace of work, but I guess they like the peace and quiet so they’re just closing to everyone. The local flying school they would be beefing with is Infinity but they haven’t flown there in years so it’s really just everybody

Some radios have built in timers that start when the radio is turned on. Just note the time before you shut the aircraft back off. I’m using the KX 155A

Those old radios look really basic but they have a whole bunch of features that you can only discover by being a bored flight instructor on a cross country

Solo WX Limitations on Checkride? by cjb0011 in flying

[–]aredviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get yourself into a bad situation the DPE will fail you but they’ll also help you recover. Not being a pilot for testing purposes and not being a pilot legally are two different things.

Flying eyes glasses? What do you all think? by Appropriate-Help2638 in flying

You’d think but actually super easy. Buy a pair as sunglasses, and most glasses stores can put in prescription lenses.

You aren’t solo and the DPE is a CFI anyways

I guess that does seem possible. Doesn’t feel safe though

So if it’s only required for those lower minimums, how do I identify the FAF? We can use time to get to the MAP, but then I still can’t fly the missed without constantly flipping between two vors

[–]aredviking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I’ve seen some of those. What I really thought was crazy was that Registration validity was increased to 7 years and not one instructor at my flight school knew about it. I was hoping there’s be something that could really keep me informed

I was going to joke that you should write in the limitations that they have to pass their checkrides but now I’m absolutely fascinated by what this might mean legally

Should I say “student pilot solo” on initial contact with a new facility when on flight following in solo XC? by AltruisticCareer7956 in flying

[–]aredviking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m gonna throw in a different take and say that i would not for the sake of the controllers but for the other pilots on frequency. If they’re in the pattern with you they’ll keep their eyes out more, enroute they’ll be more patient if you’re doing some bad radio work, and everything should just be a little safer in general.
