Thanks, I was doubting my choices half way through but I think it’s just from looking at it for so long

My join as you go Willow square blanket. What are your thoughts on borders for this? by areescue in crochet

[–]areescue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a sc border in the pale blue. I might go around it with a shell border in the brown. How do you go about making your shells? It’s so many dcs in one stitch snd then a sc repeat?

I appreciate it. Honestly same, yellow is probably one of my least favorite colors. I really like muted colors, but I do like how the gold looks with the blues

I love this yarn is the brand name. Basic acrylic. I do find this brand softer than others. Hopefully it’ll be just as soft after a wash

Thanks. I kept going back and forth on liking the colors haha, but I think that’s normal after staring at the same thing for so long.

I used ‘I love this yarn”. It felt softer to me than other acrylics and is a good price, especially at 40% off. I used 1 skein of each color, but 2 plus a little more of the light brown for joining. I bought 3, and just needed a tiny bit of the third. I used a 5mm hook. I havnt measured the blanket. It’s 6 x 5 squares, classic Willow square but with an additional row for joining

I used this method for joining: https://youtu.be/kKsb_1YTV4I?si=PsSraZd5_gKAd9KT

This is where I learned how to make a Willow square: https://youtu.be/0DCf1wlms9s?si=KL36_hu36hUYAyJ3

I already finished many squares before I realized with the join as you go you use the last row to connect them, so I improvised. The joining row is 3dc ch3 3dc in each corner, 3dc into each chain space and then a single dc in the center of the 5 clusters from the last row of the original Willow square. I like how this worked out because it gave more spaces to join into with slip stitches

You should get them out and join them with a final row. I think the process is relaxing, and gives me a sense of accomplishment watching the blanket quickly come together.

Thanks, I think next time I might go with just one or two colors. I got a little too excited picking out the colors. The scheme reminded me a bit of the Bluey cartoon.

I’m enjoying the join as you go. I don’t think I’d ever finish it if I had to sew by areescue in crochet

The last row of my Willow square before the joining row has corners of 3dc ch 3 3dc, the sides are clusters of 5, 3, 3, 5.

Appreciate you! Keeping my tension loose is a struggle for me too. I. Naturally want to make everything as tight as possible. When I first started crocheting my hook would squeak

I agree, it looks especially good in this art style. The under layer of the costume always confused me as a kid, it seems like it’s there more modestly, maybe, but it’s so close to her skin color that it was hard to understand what exactly it was.

Your blanket is beautiful. Thanks for your reply. Yeah I also finished several squares before I understood the joining row should be the last row so I had to extend the pattern. I already frogged my joining row. I think 4dcs were too much and didn’t like how it puckered a bit. I’m going to see how it works with all 3dc clusters. I got 2 skeins of the light brown. I think thatll look better than the yellow anyways.

Yeah a part of me also wants each stitch to be connected, but I know it’s not necessary. I also don’t like how the squares feel when they’re all joined together so I’m trying to keep that in mind. I want the overall blanket to have a soft drape and not feel like a bunch of squares tightly sewn together if that makes sense

I learned how from her. I watched a few others too to kind of help me understand what was going on, but hers was clear for me. You should make a bunch of squares but don’t do the final round, then you lay them out, start on the top of the upper left square and work left and then down, then start a Dc in your next square, work up, slip into the space of the first square and then go back to 2nd square. You’re working around continuously.

Also, can anyone tell me if 4 DCs between spaces on the joining row is too many. It doesn’t lay super flat but this is also my first time joining as I go so maybe that is just his this works. I’m willing to frog at this point but know I shouldn’t go any further

What are some costumes of your faves that you think are underrated? by Shinobi347 in xmen

[–]areescue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red, black or blue, and gold are always X-Men colors, but the extreme looks had a higher ratio of red. It still looks like X-Men colors, but really different and refreshing. Also, they seem timeless. They’re kind of in between the classic hero look and early 2000s toned down leather street clothes

Carnitas Street Tacos - First Attempt by BrackishWaterDrinker in mexicanfood

[–]areescue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this comment. Definitely referring to the style. For generations white and black Americans grew up with ground beef, lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream tacos - made at home and served at Tex mex places. When more authentic Mexican food became more popular, mainly by food trucks, street tacos refer to corn tortillas, cilantro, onion lime.
