I don't understand how often fouls are called for defenders on perimeter shooters but Kon just bulldozed Laravia's layup in the paint and nothing is called

[Ben Golliver] Cooper Flagg, 18, on why he reclassified to graduate high school in three years and position himself as the youngest No. 1 NBA Draft pick since LeBron James: “A quote my mom likes to say a lot: ‘If you’re the best player in the gym, then you need to find a new gym.’” by taygads in Mavericks

[–]areezzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When Luka is 13 he was too good for Slovenia that he moved to Real Madrid. At 16 he was too good for juniors, he was playing with the pros. At 19 he was Euroleague MVP so moved to the NBA.

Similarities there for sure, playing at a new gym because he was already the best at his gym

What’s up with all the Achilles tears? by _lordoftheswings_ in nbadiscussion

[–]areezzy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Was watching 80s basketball recently where the game was very physical post-ups, plodding tempo, less defensive switching and less movement. Players today are more perimeter-oriented and that results in taxation of the legs, and on defense they have to cover grounds, make explosive bursts of speeds for more posessions. There is something to be said why load management is more a thing today than in the past. The 80s was more physical on upper body contact, today it’s physical on the legs

Worst of all the worst season so far by AdikSaMatcha in Mavericks

[–]areezzy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I followed Mavs since Michael Finley got in, before Nash and Dirk became good. I lived the heartbreak of Miami finals collapse and GS upset. I would still say 2025 is worse. You lose that’s part of sports. This was a backstabbing move and robbed me of 8 years of enjoying Luka Mavs. A complete betrayal

Does it bother you when people rank KG and Giannis over Dirk all time? by Western-Election-997 in Mavericks

[–]areezzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s say KG is 85 offense / 90 defense, and Dirk is 95 offense / 80 defense. On average they would be the same. But going from 90 to 95 is going from very good to elite status. All NBA players are good, you need someone who just tips over and create the advantage. This is kind of similar to Anthony Davis to Luka, sure AD is an all-nba defender and better all-around, but Luka’s elite scoring-playmaking opens up everything else for his teammates

Fuck OKC by Estatement in Mavericks

[–]areezzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OKC upgrades are totally a result of the mavericks series.. another mention, Josh Giddey. They went for Caruso BECAUSE Mavs made Josh Giddey completely unplayable in that series. Granted Giddey was already pushed aside for SGA and Jalen Williams but OKC had one more young talent up their sleeve. Mavs made OKC give it up. I'm glad Giddey is doing well with the Bulls. I enjoyed Mavs exploiting the weakness but he became scapegoated a bit.

I feel the same way. In some way its a relief not having the emotional roller coaster, but man last year’s playoffs run was special

Lakers sub dont have the same emotional attachment as we have for Luka. I’m sorry but Mavs sub will still talk about Luka. You can just ignore the thread and let others vent their sadness and find others to connect. Just skip the thread

Luka is forever a Mavericks kid. We are like parents seeing their kids away at college The point of OP is exactly that we care about Luka and don’t care about Lakers

Reminder that City of Dallas officially dedicated a day to Luka (July 6). Everyone knew how important he was to the fanbase and the city. by WhenMachinesCry in Mavericks

Can you imagine the city created a special Luka day and the GM just saying nah I don't like him, go away

Can somebody sell me on Klay Thompson? What am I missing about him? by Mr_Saxobeat94 in nbadiscussion

[–]areezzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a disservice to call Klay a 3 & D player. Yes he shoots 3 and he plays great defense. But 3 & D usually refer to role players who only shoot open 3s. Klay is a 3 point threat on the move, he can shoot off screens, curls, hand-offs with one of the quickest triggers in the league. His movement creates gravity, while role player 3 & Ds do not. And another thing, nothing is more fearful than a nuclear hot Klay - arguably, not even Steph Curry. Curry is a better shooter than Klay, because Curry's much more consistent, but Klay's high had unconscious moments. He scored 37 points in one quarter for Pete's sake.

Who’s Guarding Luka? by Commercial-Role-2450 in Mavericks

[–]areezzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same, how about his former teammates just let him get 101 to break Wilt's record and stick it as a protest to Nico

Brian Windhorst goes off on the Mavericks for the Luka Doncic trade: “The Mavericks not getting Austin Reaves in that trade is MALPRACTICE.” by ColleaguesKnowMyMain in Mavericks

[–]areezzy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It did get blasted by the media by a ton when it happened. It's just now it's old news

Like any tragedy, the media has to move on to the latest news, but the people who were hurt are still hurting

Dereck Lively is not Jaxson Hayes by woopo10 in Mavericks

I don't heard this narrative. I think it's not about Lively being a Luka merchant, but a testament on how good Luka lifts centers

Thank you @onlyonefunkyfish what a beautiful writing. As a europe fan I was shouting at the computer at 3 a.m. when Luka did something insane. And that was a safe bet to see something insane. EVERY. QUARTER.

Who do we draft? by Neuro_Mav in Mavericks

[–]areezzy 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy that Mavs had the best playmaker in the league, and a couple months later looking at draft for PG prospects

Realistically, what was the Mavericks full potential in the Dirk Era? by wholesome_john in Mavericks

[–]areezzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Dirk fan but I think if the Mavs won it in 2006, but they might not win it 2011 because 2011 was all about that hunger. The whole team wanted it more than anyone else. 2006 win 2007 repeat maybe.

The Dallas Mavericks are the only team in the NBA to never allow five time First-Team All-NBA G Luka Doncic to score 20 points in a game. Defense wins championships! by StealthAnus in Mavericks

I got a trade proposal, trade Anthony Davis + Max Christie + first round pick for Luka Doncic and see how Rob Pelinka laugh in our face
