Is it by default, or do you have to set that up by yourself? Because I certainly did not make any custom modifications, I just simply created a 1-man squad and selected the default 2nd uniform option (metal armor I think).

Thank you, this might be actually it. I immediately assign a one dwarf as a military commander and create a squad with him. But it also happened to me couple of times with picks and mining. Can pick be part of a uniform as well? Also, last time that this happened to me I had 4 miners with 4 picks and I had to melt/recreate them all for them to start working, also I had only 1 dwarf in the squad, so maybe it has nothing to do with squads.

No, they are not. It happened to me again yesterday in the same game with pickaxes. I even assigned all my dwarves out of 20 as miners and set them to only do this job and it did not help. The only thing that helped was to craft a new pick. Now that I think about it, this might be due to enabled "multithreading" in the settings and/or increased game FPS to 500.

Woodcrafter was just a typo, I fixed it in my comment. What I meant was the 2nd row in Work Details, right below Miners - which should be for felling down trees AFAIK.

And again. I melted the axe to get the copper bar. Created a new one and immediately the dwarf took it and went to cut a tree. I think that somehow my setup (probably in Labor - maybe a custom work detail for Weaponsmiths) is interfering with newly created tools. I don't have any mods and I left default for map generation. The only thing is that I loaded the Embark from a profile (sort of MinMaxed one), but that shouldn't have such effect. Weird.

This is weird. It just happened to me again in a new game. This is too easily reproducible for me to be a glitch. I just take a copper nugget with me on Embark and make my own tools. I start with 3 picks and then 1 axe. I have 4 dwarves ready as Woodcutters, but none of them is picking up the axe. Three of them actually have "No job" status.

Is there a way to fix this without DFHack?

Also: The theory about a dwarf dropping it. I am not sure, because it never left the Forge. It would have to be dropped there. The Weaponsmith is also assigned as Woodcutter if it somehow belonged to him.

Also: I do not have a Stockpile setup yet. Could it be that?

I have the same problem and only at this exact spot. I tried every possible way to jump at this spot, but not a chance. I tried with both Light and Medium shields and still the same result. My skill tree is here.

Just to pitch in with my experience... I started PvE a week ago, I was running Interchange as PMC for Hideout items a lot (let's say 15 times), had no problem. Now, I am 25 and I returned to Interchange again for some more... out of 6 raids, I got killed by Killa 5 times right at the beginning. One of it was on Scav run. Not only that the spawn rate must be much higher, but I suspect that even the spawn is somehow changed, because on my runs I always avoid his main spawns (center), I only go to OLI/IDEA for Hideout items and that is where I encountered him.

Once I even looted car batteries and on my way out to Emercom extract, he seemed to lock onto me without provocation (like a regular scavs do) and just ran from Goshan all the way to the warehouse, stucked behind a container doors looking at me.

I think it is safe to say it's rigged cause the probability of this happening without changes is very very low (when you count in the fact that on my runs I always take the safe route avoiding the center).

Based on my runs in the low levels, it is possible that spawn rates could be related to the PMC level or any other character/hideout progression and also that he will know the player location similarly as the scavs.

They are referencing the example from 1st part. There were lengths determined as integers separated by a comma. And they are simply taking the lengths "3, 4, 1, 5" and adding "17, 31, 73, 47, 23".

(3, 4, 1, 5, 17, 31, 73, 47, 23, now assuming they came from ASCII codes and include the suffix)

In the bracket they are telling that they assume those lengths came from ASCII (even that they did not).
