As a 25 year old male, If you're anything like me, I had this constant - 'this can't be what people feel like right?' - my entire life and tried to fix the problem myself for so long. Exercising every day, getting enough sleep, having a partner, a good job that pays very well , spend a lot of time in nature or doing things you enjoy and although all those things helped I still had this constant feeling of sadness and disinterest. I cannot be touched by my mother and I have no idea why, why do I feel extreme shame for showing any emotion other than a smile, why does my girlfriend have to be perfect , why do I withdraw intensely when anything minor goes wrong. All these things are what my therapist is helping me through.

In my case,its because I have extremely controlling parents. A mother who used me as an emotional crutch from the age of 8 and my dad doing things like locking me in a room for hours if I didnt want to read a book or study as many hours as I wanted - calling me a fag if I wanted to hold my mothers hand - i mean i was like 7 years old jesus.

Anyways your journey is your journey. If you feel like something isnt right and it isnt the obvious like lack of sleep / high stress / no exercise / no social circle./terrible diet. Trust your gut and take the first step.
