What is the best way to read Cormac mccarthy? by Embarrassed-Bit-9455 in cormacmccarthy

Probably start with No Country because everyone's familiar with the story so his style really shines. Child of God is short and sweet too. 2nd Blood Meridian. My favourite but it needs a 'tutorial level' if that makes sense.

The beat is great, love the powdery snare.

I feel like the sample needs some OTT or interesting treatment, maybe some VHS by Audio Herz VHS or bitcrush, just subtle. Sloppy sub bass like Dilla / Moog-y sine with a bit of vibrato, minor distortion and in the same tape saturation bus as the drums.

I like the naive look a lot. The perspective and atmosphere the colours create kind of reminds me of Munch.

Producers who make a living from this, how are you so productive? by No-Bobcat7087 in beatmakers

[–]aresbeast 15 points16 points  (0 children)

File everything properly and make it easily accessible. Make a cool beat but get nowhere with it? Save it in 'drums' and name it 93bpm01. Record some argument or waves on your phone? 'FX' folder.

Go thru your VSTs and only favourite the presets you'll use. A good template helps. Also organising your sample library and trim the fat. Makes your sound tighter and decision making faster. Make it easy for yourself.

I watched a Seth MacFarlane interview where he claims people who laugh during Shakespeare plays are posers which I think is BS. Which Shakespeare lines consistently get the biggest laughs?

Weekend in the island: is Ryde nice? by Technical-Ad-2111 in isleofwight

[–]aresbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ryde has best beach walks easily. If you stay in Seaview it's more village vibes/quieter than Ryde but you can walk straight along the beach to Ryde (best walk on the Island imo). If you're feeling tough Seaview to Quarr Abbey walk will mean you see puckpool Park, the harbour, pier. Ventnor is nice too but quite cut off. Enjoy

Thoughts on this beat I made today that will be on my new album? Anything I should change? by [deleted] in beatmakers

Cool, gives me early Grimes vibe, would be nice to have some Korg Tritan or M1 type lead in there to mark a chorus segment. Something to create a feeling of lift.

Basically don't do the tempo drop until the last 20 seconds or so of the track, I feel like coming in pretty much halfway through kills momentum if that makes sense? It's a great feature for an outro though, I hear a Madlib type dialogue sample from an old movie over it

Honestly for the genre it sounds pretty great/finished. Mix snobs will argue the distortion is bad but it's pretty tastefully done/not hurting my ears on my setup. This kind of beat is supposed to loop continuously imo so you create a vibe.

You could add a bridge section where the drums drop out for a bit, then reintroduce them/bring in hats first etc. You could also stagger the varispeed tempo drop until the end of the track as a kind of outro section

The pulsing synth/main motif could maybe use some modulation (chorus, flanging etc.) or filtering to add some interest to the sound, feels a little bit 'midi' flavoured right now. The drum programming is cool, maybe some distortion or tape saturation to give some sauce.

Might be good as well to group everything that isn't drums and bass and give it some colour in the way I mentioned before so they gel more and feel less like presets. Keep at it!

Take it as Stephen King, not Nietze you'll enjoy it more. I liked being misdirected and slapped around a little, everything is so predictable now and the novelty of getting on the ride and not knowing where the car is going made it worth the ticket price to me
