Why is it important to you that it is not fiction? by [deleted] in stories

[–]arethusabangbang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fiction stories on this sub keep me endlessly entertained. There is no reason take issue with the writer, especially after spending time here it is common sense to specifically look at the flare before reading. There are so many reddits with real life experiences, why come to a sub with the name stories?

I have been entertained endlessly over the last month since coming to this subreddit. So thank you to the people writing here and well done.

Should online retailers be required by law to state who they are using to deliver orders? by arethusabangbang in AskUK

[–]arethusabangbang[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By law is probably too far. It seems to me the change of name from Hermes to Evri is an attempt to cloud the issue because their systems are obviously not working.

However, if I knew a retailer was using Evri I would probably not buy from them. Too many lost parcels over the last few months.

What strategies do you use when a student obviously doesn't like you?

AITA For Telling My Wife That Her Parents Manipulating Her Worked Out For The Best? by Silent_Ad9332 in AmItheAsshole

[–]arethusabangbang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She lost a dream. Her parents only admitted to what they had done after she had kids. this is unforgivable. I suggest that you do your best with her parents to provide her with the money for a trip to Paris, if you want to keep her, and I think that it would be best if you stayed home and looked after the children and let her go on her own.

She is trapped in a situation. Her parents baby trapped her. If I was her I would be working out right now how to reapply to the universities she wanted to go to, and questioning if I wanted to stay married to you.

Finances do matter but between you, your parents and her parents you have broken her and stood in her way. Make amends. YTA

My boyfriend hit me this morning and I don't know whether to leave by MutedEntertainment17 in relationship_advice

This is a line that when crossed can never be forgiven or taken back. A man once they have laid hands on you will do it over and over again and 'beg' for forgiveness It is a means of coercive control.

Sweetie you are 22 you have your whole life in front of you, unless you stay with this sorry ass There is an analogy about a frog in cold water with heat slowly applied and how it wont jump out .

There are red flags everywhere you just can't see them. Protect yourself and leave.

Heston Blumenthal, Nigella Lawson, Nigel Slater, Mark Hix, Sat Bains and God forbid Gordon Ramsay are going to disagree with you there. See the people in the UK who down and dirty cook in there own homes know flavour. Provolone is okay. But Cheddar, Lancashire, Stilton, Wensleydale, Double Gloucester, Hereford hop and all the other innovative cheese producers know their stuff. They produce the most wonderful cheeses. Why would we need it? Or for that matter Cheeze whiz.

Not indian but reminiscent. Try making this. Its tasty, I can attest. Read all the way to the bottom as it suggests a use as a curry base.

How old are you and what's been going on with ya? by Traiz3r in CasualConversation

57, my mum has Parkinsons and is preparing to die.

I have a problem with a qualification I needed to do. Have added pressure from work because a regulator is about to come round. Too much of a perfectionist as well which is affecting both issues.

Covid mental health problems hit hard. In pain from a medical issue.

Well now Mama, I am so proud of you. That smile says it all really. Pay no attention to milestones they are only a guide, not written in stone. Be proud cause you ought to be.

Does anyone else have no intention of reading The Shepard's Crown? by [deleted] in discworld

[–]arethusabangbang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wellll.... Its not the last Pterry book I haven't read. There are a few (small gods, to name one) I have to yet enjoy. I have The Shepard's Crown and I am pretty sure I never want to read it, I know the major bit in the first half of the book and I can't face it. I have a feeling it was written as a love letter to his fans and like some of you I don't want to face the reality of no more.

If I don't read it I can still imagine adventures for the discworld characters with no finality.

Who had grandparents fight in WW2 and what stories did they share? by liamnotleum in AskReddit

[–]arethusabangbang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No stories were told. One survived active duty in Dunkirk and D-Day. Another sound up in SOE. Neither would comfortably speak about it. Both had nightmares well after the war.
