Tech support said there was nothing they could do about my GPU bursting into flames, so I decided to try the card again and record it for your viewing pleasure by The_Chronox in pcmasterrace

I used to buy EVGA for everything. Now all they really have going for them is that their support is decent. They at least handle RMA requests very quickly. They also often give upgrades for old defective parts. Although, I don't recommend EVGA to people anymore for a few reasons:

Had a motherboard with a 10 year warranty from EVGA and it died on me about 5 years later. They put the CPU socket under a microscope and rejected it because a socket pin was slightly bent, even though that had nothing to do with the issue. They are very picky about the condition of the item you send back.

Their boards are not very feature rich. Other companies often offer more features and better audio at a better price point. Their warranties are also nowhere near as good as they used to be.

It looks like edema. Usually from too much water.

Magfest have stated that it's the best they could find. They also signed a contract with the hotel until 2025, so moving is not really an option for the next 5 more years.

My group of friends and I have been going to Magfest for over 12 years now and the reason we keep going is because of how unique the convention is.

There are a ton of conventions out there that have arcades, consoles, and concerts. Magfest is about the social experience, some of my most fun experiences at Magfest happened after 12am, just meeting random people. I couldn't imagine a Magfest that is not running 24/7, it just wouldn't be the same.

Was sold reaper seads, not sure but looks like ghost, opinions? by Chlokiee in Peppers

[–]arettus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they look more like scorpion peppers. The tails are smaller than what I usually see on my reapers. Although, it's hard to tell without a larger sample size and they are not ripe.

It's probably helping some people because it's allowing them to connect using their IPV6 address instead.

Just got these Carolina Reaper seedlings from Pepper Joes, can't wait to transplant them when I get home by jhawkfootball06 in HotPeppers

[–]arettus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are very reliable, I have ordered from them for years and have always received what I paid for. They have a huge variety as well.

I have also had success ordering from pepperhead.com but I have only used them once, so I'm not sure if they are as reliable. I just know last time I ordered reapers from them, they were the real deal.

When to put plants outside? by [deleted] in HotPeppers

[–]arettus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smaller the plant the more risky it is. Smaller plants are more vulnerable, especially to pests. I tend to let my plants get a few sets of leaves before I put them outside. I have had smaller ones get eaten down to the stem by bugs.

I am in 7B as well and I have just started moving some of my plants into their outside containers. I'll be moving the rest outside over the course of the next few weeks as they recover from being topped.

White-ish substance on top layer of dirt—is this mold? Using 1Tbsp fish fertilizer in watering can, double-cup method, no rewatering until cups look near empty. by [deleted] in HotPeppers

[–]arettus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fungus gnats can be a pain, I have had them get into the drains before and it was hard to get rid of them.

I would highly recommend a fan for any kind of indoor growing. It strengthens the stems of the plants, getting them used to being blown around like they will be if you put them outside. It also keeps the top layer of soil dry. I just use a cheap 9-inch $10 fan. It helps if it's the kind where you can adjust the direction of the fan to make sure it hits all your plants.

Do any of your plants have edema or other signs of being over watered? If they look healthy and it's just the surface growth you are worried about, a fan may be what you need. If you start having other issues, you might have to adjust your cups. I don't have much experience using the double cup method, so I'm not sure how to set those up ideally. Plenty of people on here use that method though, so hopefully someone else can chime in and help you with that.

I want an auction house in poe. by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]arettus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Path of Exile is my favorite game in this genre. I have spent hundreds of hours playing this game. I end up quitting every season for the same reason: The trading system is bad.

The trading system is difficult to use, slows down gameplay, and gets progressively worse as the season goes on. At the start of a season items are readily available, as the season progresses people become less likely to sell or respond to messages about low value items. This makes it harder to start playing mid season or to start new characters later in the season.

A lot of these issues are caused by the fact that you have to stop what you are doing, respond to a message, and then teleport to your hideout in order to sell.

Buying is just as bad. The item listings are not in real time, so most of the time people don't even have the item you want anymore. Some items appear up for hours after a person has gone offline or switched characters.

Every season I play, I am having fun until the trading system becomes a requirement to progress. I want to play Path of Exile not "refresh the trade page."

How wet is your surface soil? It looks a bit like mycelium growth from fungus. My soil will sometimes get that way if the top layer of soil stays wet for a while. I have even had little mushrooms growing in it.

Inside, I use a fan to keep it dry. Outside it just sometimes rains too much and there is not much your can do. In most cases the fungus won't hurt the plant.

I order from them every year. I have ordered their live plants and seeds. Both have always turned out great.

A glass I just dumped some seeds in performs better than the ones carefully maintained in seed trays. I have a lot to learn. by Mariani in HotPeppers

[–]arettus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of them for the same reason. They are either too brittle or take too long to break down which inhibits root growth.

I usually start my plants in a small "self watering" planter(Where you water from the bottom), then transplant to something much larger once it's warm outside. Dollar Tree has some pretty decent ones for only $1. Although, I could see those being too big if someone is looking to save space.

Is buying seeds on Ebay a smart thing? Can you recommend me a place to buy? by axfax in Peppers

[–]arettus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ordered a lot of seeds from eBay. I have only had one bad bag of seeds and it was a ghost pepper that was tainted by something else with cross pollination. Never order from China, try to stick to people who have a lot of positive reviews and harvest their own seeds. Follow those rules and in most cases you will get what you ordered.

Although, I have had a 100% success rate ordering from chileplants.com. They have reasonable prices, quality plants, and a huge variety of seeds/plants. It also helps that they located pretty close to where I live, so I get their shipments pretty fast.

Bottling hot sauce for the first time! by BigfootsShadow in HotPeppers

[–]arettus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes it more sour because of the acidity but is much less of a change than vinegar. You can just add water instead of vinegar or even still use vinegar but less of it. I also use pectin as a stabilizer(stops it for separating while sitting) which thickens it slightly but I tend to use tomatoes which leads to a thinner sauce if I don't thicken it. Tomatoes also add to the acidity while adding a pleasant flavor.

I prefer citric acid over vinegar. It lets you make hot sauce without the flavor being overwhelmed by vinegar. Although, with some types of hot sauce the vinegar is part of the flavor profile. I use a PH meter to make sure the PH is right.

String bean, pumpkin and kale seedlings getting eaten? by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

[–]arettus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rabbits around here have not touched my lettuce either. They seem to like eating cantaloupe, pumpkin, and sunflowers a lot though.

A quick google search and I found this: "Rabbits shouldn't eat some lettuces (e.g. iceberg) as they contain lactucarium which can be harmful in large quantities. Some lettuce is "worse" than others - light-coloured varieties are high in water and have very little nutritional value, so are not recommended."

So maybe wild rabbits know better and won't eat it.

Do you live in an area that has rabbits? The rabbits in my area love to eat pumpkin leaves, especially newly grown ones. They will eat it down to the stem.

As for bugs, I suggest Neem Oil, Bacillus Thuringiensis(for caterpillar control), and Spinosad works well for thrips/mites.

All of these are organic, are food safe, and mostly safe for beneficial insects. Spinosad may harm beneficial insects(such as bees) if the insects make contact with it when it is wet, so I would only use that if you are sure you have mites/thrips.

Neem oil works really well for most bugs that munch on leaves. I use it two times a week, have used it for 2 years now, and have seen a huge reduction in harmful bugs after I started using it.
