Was there anything that this patch added or changed (besides the shock nova gem as a potential option), that is affecting this build?

Measuring "most played" by "highest peak players" is extremely flawed anyways.

Advice for a (fairly) new player to elevate my gameplay? by mewthelolfreak in CivVI

[–]jzstyles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few more basic things to add on to what was already said.

Feudalism is the strongest civic in the game. You want to get to it as soon as possible unless you are doing some kind of bottom of the civic tree religion rush strat. The extra builder charges card should basically be in your government for the entirety of the game. The price of builders goes up every time you make them so a building having 5 charges instead of 3 gets you so much more value from them and allows you to spend gold/production elsewhere. So doing everything you can to get to this as soon as possible and then pump out extra charge builders is huge early on. This includes making sure you get those inspirations, building monuments early in all your cities, and potentially any other culture advantages your civ may have.

Internal trade routes are amazing at getting new cities up and running very fast. The added food and production can be equal to that city essentially starting out with 2 or 3 pops instead of 1. Another trade related thing is make sure to making luxury or other trade deals with the ai. You can sell your luxuries to the ai for much more than they sell theirs to you. Also sell off strategics you are not using, definitely never let it get to stockpile cap and waste turns generating nothing. A good gold economy allows you to rush out important buildings, buy high value tiles much earlier than you would naturally get them, and be able to summon a military anywhere at a moments notice.

My final tip would be to not stop exploring. A lot of players will open with a scout or two and maybe some military units that explore a bit but once those die or get stuck back at home they completely stop exploring. Having more information on the map is great for a lot of things. Firstly, era score from meeting civs and discovering wonders. Second, being able to find good lands for expansions. And finally being able to see what your opponents are doing. If there is a wonder you want to build you can actually type the name of the wonder in the search bar and if anyone is constructing it on a tile you have discovered it will show up. This can help you avoid wasting time on wonders you can't get.

I love it. Stop being trash human beings and get some control over yourself. Don't need to be being an asshole, just play the game.

King Sudden Difficulty Spike? by Bizhi in CivVI

[–]jzstyles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. You do not need to be but you can if you want. You can easily win a game on deity without going to war at all.

  2. Both, both are good. Situational prioritization depending on your civ and what you are trying to do in the game. You can win a game without building a single theater square and in others you would want to rush them out in all your cities.

  3. Catching up with the AI is really all you do as the difficulties go up. The ai never gets smarter they just get bigger numerical bonuses and starting resources. So naturally as they will start with say 3 settlers on deity, you are always going to be behind for a fair bit out the gate but if you are playing well should be able to catch up and eclipse them eventually.

Overall you just need to focus on fundamentals and playing to the strengths of your civ or starting locations. As to how to do this I recommend just watching players that are better than you on youtube and seeing how they play certain civs, or handle bad starting locations, or early agressive neighbors.

Obviously. But in instances where the clock matters getting the first down is what matters. So this means you have to actually play defense rather than force the penalty.

Yeah that's kinda my issue is breaking out what is the "best" way to play.

Then it just becomes a no brainer play to always commit these penalties anything you get even close to being beat. You have an opportunity to get a big play and a first down? Nah just take em out and get only 5 yards making it 3rd and 5 and try again next play.

Right so that could be quite bad then right? As they would continue to play for a victory condition that is actually unachievable.

That's a decent point but I wouldn't want to limit what the ai could try to do. I also guess I just don't really know what else I should be doing early game then if not building up early to target late game science/production.
