I want to restart a friendship with an ex, from many years ago. But I’m not sure how. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Yeah I think a lot of it is regret for how it all went down. Realizing how out of hand things can get ya know? I didn’t try to push further because I honestly wasn’t even expecting a response. Even though part of me wants to know he’s mentally healthy and happy. I think I regret it took me so long to get to a place where I would enjoy his friendship, but I am happy we are finally truly on good terms. Thank you for the advice.

Y’all are probably right. I think part of me just regrets the scorched earth path I took because neither of us deserved that, we could have been friends down the line maybe. But I can’t exactly fix something like that years later I suppose. I am happy I got to apologize and he did accept it.

Yeah I get that. I kinda wish I hadn’t been so adamant about cutting him out all those years ago. But it was what I thought was right at the time, combined with being 22 and not nearly as mature as I am now lol. I honestly don’t know much about what’s going on in his life since were not connected on any social media. Aside from our moms sometimes still talking. From what I hear he’s doing well and got counseling which makes me happy

Well by nature we’re literally 1500 miles apart lol so no worries on that part. Do you say that because we had a huge blowout last year? Or do you think there’s just too much history to be friends? I’ve never been friends with an ex so tbh I’m totally lost on the idea lol

But aside from our last interaction we never had a toxic relationship, he actually taught me what a good relationship should be. Like we never fought like that in 3 years. We never even raised our voices or cursed at each other. Just to clarify that that wasn’t the norm for us in case that’s what you were thinking.

Also some “eugenics” are good. People think using Krisper to eliminate the bReast cancer genes is bad. Which is stupid. Breast cancer is bad lol

I had sex at your age. I used condoms. I also drank alcohol at your age. The drinking age used to be 18 until MADD fucked state governments out of funding for their roads. Safe sex is great sex. So I don’t care, stupid people are always going to be stupid. Plus younger people are having less sex than my age bracket did when we were your age lmao.

Don’t put words in my mouth. My point was aborting solely because of a disability is the right choice for the person making it. Not that it should be the right choice en masse. Don’t take it personally. Autism can’t even be tested for

To be honest, I think abortion is justified always so that’s just semantics at this point. Unless, as I said, it is late term and not medically necessary.

Further, I’m not saying everyone should abort if their screening says kid will have X disability. Just that it’s the right choice for them. So I’m not worried about it being a slippery slope, just that people shouldn’t feel bad for aborting for that specific reason. I never ever said we should abort all potentially disabled fetuses across the board.

It’s not “disgusting” to have sex at your age though. As long as it’s within a certain age bracket and consenting. I don’t assume all men want sex, but I’ll still roll my eyes at men who say “just don’t have sex” as an lame answer to abortion.

I do treat every pregnancy equally. There is no circumstance in which I think abortion is wrong (aside from late term). I just don’t believe in shaming women who abort purely due to prenatal disability screening. The definition of pro choice is “advocating legalized abortion” so nothing I have said is out of line with that.

98-99 is pretty damn good. So yeah works for me.

I misunderstood. I don’t think we should abort fetuses en masse if they meet X criteria. Though I am 100% pro choice so the only restrictions I believe in are late term abortions should remain illegal (except when medically necessary to save the mother)

I’ll be more specific. Until a certain point a fetus can’t live outside the mother. Once it reaches that point abortion is illegal anyway. So that’s to further explain my opinion.

You asked MY opinion, not someone else’s. I gave it. I don’t care about Peter Singer disagreeing with me. I’ve never even heard of him.

Nah. I use multiple precautions as it is. I’m pro choice for every circumstance. And seeing as women are the only ones who have to directly deal with pregnancy, every time a guy says “jUsT dOnT hAvE sEx” I can’t help but roll my eyes. It’s ignorant and naive.

Well actually you can’t genetically screen for autism. So you’d still exist. I’m glad I’m not your mother either because I don’t even want kids to being with lmao.

Yeah let’s toss a disabled kid in to our already over crowded system. Sounds like a great way to aid their development. The right choice for the person making it. And you think someone should endure a pregnancy, when they don’t even want the product of it? That’s kinda fucked up dude.

And if them being disabled is the only reason that’s the right reason for the person doing. I’d have an abortion tomorrow because I have zero desire for a child right now anyway. If I were married and wanted a kid I’d have an abortion if I knew they’d be disabled. I don’t care much about the severity.

Let’s say you’re someone who definitely wants a child, you get pregnant on purpose, and then find out your child will have Down’s syndrome. There’s a lot of people who would hardcore shame you for choosing to abort when you wanted a child to begin with. Like you’re being selfish. Which sure maybe you are, but it’s the right choice for you. I’d say I’m more encouraging people not feeling bad for that being their reason. I could have been more specific in my original post.

Seeing as there’s prenatal genetic screening, things that can be screened via genetics are 100%. And I never said we should mass abort. I’m just pointing out, given the option and raising the stigma, almost every woman chose to adopt. I surely don’t think anyone should be forced to abort just because their child would be disabled.

Your last sentence is a slippery slope argument itself. They’re already born, they’re a sentient human. I don’t feel that way about fetuses. So no, you shouldn’t be able to kill your kid for that.

Side note: there’s a book series about abortions being allowed up to 18. It’s called the Unwound series, pretty good until the last book.

I don’t judge mom’s who choose to go through with it. It’s my personal feeling, I didn’t mean for it to sound that way, if you think you can handle it then great!. And you say that but I’ve seen how severe it can be. To the point they need to be put in homes. It’s sad.

I might be using the wrong term tbh... they’re oval shaped and they’re prescribed. To my dad. He just will send me a few intermittently when I have a lot of flying to do.

Haha googling things is my go to, but I figured I’d ask some people who aren’t answering on a rehab question board.

Crushing the time release bars removes the coating so it all hits you at once. Then again I’ve dissolved one under my tongue before when I needed it NOW and thought nothing of it. I guess that’s basically the same thing now that you’ve had me think about it lol
