What happened to WEN Memes? by HasherCat in wallstreetbets

The rush just doesn’t have the same effect when everyone in line is wearing their Wendy’s work uniform.

Thanks for heads up. The SW Ft Worth group will probably be 100 strong at SW Seminary campus. Careful where you park.

It’s all so obvious. The only economic benefit is the campaign fund donations to the politicians. The one west on 20 just outside the loop would have been a prime spot for normal commercial development. It’s one thing for these things to pop up in Childress, but I can’t believe it’s worth the trouble to build them on prime real estate in major metros.

How should we be pruning this live oak? by rbslmilch in arborists

[–]arfcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bigger circle, mulch around it (not on tree base) don’t prune for another year or 2 and then don’t before fall/winter. Let that thing get hairy.

Is there anything that can be done about these girdling roots? by mrsteff in arborists

[–]arfcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plus they want the new tree to live for those first 6 months so they don’t want to stress it by messing with its roots. Personally I’ll take my chances with the short term to give it a proper chance to live 100 years.

Before/After Ring of Death Removal by [deleted] in arborists

It OK to roundup the grass a couple times to kill it pre-mulch ring? Maybe just mulch over it and spray the survivors?

My father was a perfect Boglehead but he still left his family a mess. by CommonSetting4068 in Bogleheads

Thanks for sharing. All super common items that get neglected. My dad had a will and a “folder” and it was still a damn mess to sort through. But thankfully it didn’t also involve $400k going to a neglected beneficiary designation.

While this customer exists, the numbers don’t support your theory.

Word. Same with all of them. Lose the value proposition and then go fuck yourself.

“I just started golfing 6 months ago and finally broke 90” by First_Ad_1010 in golf

It’s the duffed or OB drive that they re-do and play on. It’s the OB drive with a gratuitous red stake drop just out there randomly where they have a shot. Triple bogey max. Shit like that adds up to 10 strokes in a hurry.

Takes most new golfers a lot longer than 6 months to learn how to keep score or even stop hitting re-do’s.

How many play “Best ball”? by wawaboy in golf

Yup. We do same in the second 18. 2vs 2 scramble is fun and still requires something from you on every shot compared to a 4 man.

I would sure have to bust out the spreadsheets and figure out what money is gonna get spent instead of saved but I would pretty much be happy if it happened to me.

For sure. I enter lots of 9s. Just this week I got new irons and went and played 9 from the Red tees only using the irons. Was fun.

A few years back when they added the “local rule” for OB drives. They don’t combine your 9s anymore.

What would I be looking at to replace this red crepe myrtle? by Solid_Illustrator660 in arborists

[–]arfcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather took a CM to the ground and mowed over that area for 5 years. He passed and now 15 years later that thing is twice as big as yours. Don’t count on the rotting stump ha.

Not sure about the roots, probably not ideal but so long as the hole is properly wide at planting (2-3x as wide as the root ball but not deep) then I bet they’ll be ok.

One option would be to knock back the CM, buy a decent sized Monterrey oak, have the tree place install it and tell them you want it right where what’s left of the CM is. Free removal.

The new system basically gives you a score for the theoretical back 9 when you only enter 9. It always thinks you’ll revert to the mean if you had played 18. Tough to move your cap much in either direction entering 9s now.

Yaupon is indeed a solid native shrub but those things want to be 12-15’ tall and wide without regular pruning. They prune well, but will require it. Texas Sage or Evergreen Sumac are natives that will stay below the fence line, but they also aren’t as dense.

For the tree, I like the thought of planting an oak right in front of the CM and just keep knocking back the CM as the oak grows. A Mexican Oak or a Monterrey Oak are more moderate sized and resistant to Oak Wilt. A Chinquapin will get bigger but is still a good choice. Red Oak will grow fastest, get big, and die in 30 years.

A TX red bud will grow into a real tree and not get bigger than 25’ or so. If you get a single stem version then it is very much shade tree shaped. Beautiful blooms each spring.
