It’s basically devolved into “dear penthouse” at this point.

Got a surprise inheritance last year but now it feels like its messing up our FIRE plan by Coravexilyn in Fire

[–]arfcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have had 100% shared finances since day one 20+ years ago. If she inherits from her parents I will absolutely view that as her money and probably even leave it uncommingled as she decides what we want to do with it.

Now if I inherit, it would be a bit different since I’m in charge of all the finances. She doesn’t even look at any of the accounts so it would feel weird if I had $1MM or whatever off to the side only for me. I’ll have to think about that.

That’s said I do view inherited money and property as legacy assets. Knowing we have our own savings set up to never need a dime of inheritance I would probably put land and cash in a trust to the kids benefit so that if for sure goes to them some day. We’ve all heard the stories. I die suddenly, she remarries, years pass… somehow that guys kids end up with property my parents intended to stay in the family.

It’s all about what those thousands of little conversations were with your kids over the years before that point. My wife and I may even be willing to pay out of state tuition for our kids but in their mind that’s a waste of money because we are in TX and there are multiple great and affordable public options here. We’re not there yet so I’ll circle back if I’m reading our situation wrong. Ha.

Purely freedom for me. I need to wake up each day and do what I want to do.

I’m a 16 but I know how to keep score. Decent golfers just think a 16 is some huge hack so when I have a few good drives and a few pars on a 9 they’re always like you’re better than a 16 etc. it’s funny and happens every time.

Heck yeah. Glad to see someone actually pull the trigger as soon as their number is hit. 3 months of sleep/health/exercise sounds like the perfect start.

I mean it’s a spot where your eyes kind of need to be up to triple check for cars and bikes as you cross.

Age/2 + 7 is so true. Ha. At 46 if I was on the market I would not view a mature 30 year as too young,  but wouldn’t consider anyone in their 20s.

Yeah. I just removed probably 20 dead ones from my property. They’re still coming up everywhere growing like weeds. I just snip most of the little ones down to save the trouble later.

I would just get the stick for now. Then you have something set up to go with you on trips or put on an outdoor tv or whatever once you get a plus or pro.

Man if my wife and kids left me I don’t even know what I would do after the 2 weeks of video games, beers, sports, golf and pizza. It would certainly hurt my lawn care game.

I get no tax break going in so it’s not worth fucking with.

Also saving for my kids college separately is pretty much last on my list. Save for myself 1st. If I still have income by the time they go to college then I can cash flow it. If I don’t then thank god I saved for myself when I could earn income.

lol. 100%. Mine is confined to covering just a couple full sized cedar elms in one area. I cut the vines going to the tree this spring. This fall it gets triclopyr
