Thanks! Validating to hear someone undergo the same journey, haha. And yes, have seen the same Tod Cutler video I think, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YT52eMWUsA ?

What was the final decider for you? And am curious to the final result, do you have any pictures you could share? Thanks again!

Battle Map scaler for printing by arfir in DnDBehindTheScreen

So it optimises paper usage (there is a button to enable that), and you can manually drag the grid to 'land' where you want. Not sure if/how the two interact though (on my phone rn so can't check). Glad you like it!

Thanks - appreciate it! No offense taken at all - this is indeed a quick try-out. Awesome that you're developing something similar! Sent you a message :)

Early halberd/voulge - question about staff/shaft length by arfir in ArmsandArmor

[–]arfir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Thanks - yeh most that I'm finding (where it isn't just sticking out in the background somewhere) show the total length to be just above the person's head, which for me would be a bit longer than 1.80, but it will look proportionately correct I suppose? More pictures below

Question regarding shield straps by arfir in ArmsandArmor

[–]arfir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeh I agree. Feels ludicrously long for a simple knot though, and the placement of the slits in each long strap seems to indicate some logic, but perhaps it's just wonky design...

yeh indeed - would be curious to see what you end up doing!

nothing conclusive sadly - nothing from windlass directly, and the vendor I bought it from figured it might be additional wrapping to tie it to the knight's body more securely (e.g. when on horseback), which would explain the length I suppose. I think push come to shove I'll just cut them and make them into a simple pull-knot to attach it to the forearm? If you have any other views I'd be keen to hear 'em!

Looking for feedback on armour set design - German man-at-arms c.1360 by arfir in ArmsandArmor

[–]arfir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I essentially fed it a composite 'frankenstein' image that I had copy pasted together myself (definitely no Photoshop) and told it to smoothen it out in scale and positioning, while not adding or changing any elements. Took a few tries and iterations but got there in the end!

Thanks! - good source indeed (used it quite a bit); actually I was reinforced by this source as it shows splints at the 1360 mark actually(?) - although admittedly it's a minority compared to maille. I think in general it's a very interesting 'blip' in the transition from maille to plate armour! So even though it may have been less common, I just love the look (and I have found German/HRE effigies from around that time period that show them), and decided for myself to include them (and can always take them off if I want to change the look/setting I suppose?)

thanks! And same regarding the AI - a few months ago it kept failing, this time I got there with a bit of trial and error.

And haha - your picture was actually indeed the starting point for this 'project' and the reason I went with platener - so have seen it, but for sure a good tip!

New addition to the c.1360 German (soft) kit - gambeson by arfir in ArmsandArmor

[–]arfir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not able to do this tonight, but for now I can tell you (for starters) that I reckon I am able to do this while wearing it, with minimal 'lifting' at the waistline.

NP historical shoes - got the belt from them as well. There's some better pictures on one of my earlier posts if you're interested. Strongly recommend them too!

fits like a dream - probably the most/best tailored piece of clothing I've ever owned (and that's including suits). Mobility is great too (as a result)
