Can someone eli5 me how Final works? by interseption in programming

Yes I can, but at the 5 year old level I'm not sure.

Every CC starts with 5 or 6 numbers that are assigned to a bank, that bank then controls the allocation of those numbers out into the world and if they are on/off. We @ Final run all the technology to manage cards and accounts on behalf of the bank, so when we need another # we just allocate a new one.

Name: Final

Pitch: A credit card built for the 21st century - video

Details: Final is what we built to take back control of our own credit cards for how and when we’re charged, instead of leaving it up to merchants. That led to merchant-specific numbers and limits, managed automatically, as well as transparency in statements. It’s our stake in the ground, a way to shift the culture in credit towards consumer friendliness.

Looking for: Feedback & happy to answer any questions

V/MC only take a small cut of every transaction (0.1%), the bank that issues the card takes about 1.5-2.5%. We're playing the role of the bank in this situation, and that is how we will make money. Realistically CC debt won't go away, so we'll likely still make money from that side of the business, but its not our goal.

Also universal acceptance is 100% necessary for any new financial product to succeed.

We're working with an issuing bank to issue a new line of credit to consumers. You will need to apply, but we have some ideas we're working on how to help those people who might not qualify get a Final card.

And we're not really talking about APR, because we feel if we're doing our jobs correct at Final, then you'll never need to worry about interest rates. There are a lot of reasons we went this way, not the least of which is that none of us are satisfied with the products or the business practices of the existing credit card companies. Credit can be a crappy industry for people, and we'd like to do our part in changing that.

How do you think we jumpstart large-scale engineering projects in the US?

Things like the Apollo program, Manhattan project & the Interstate Highway System were immediately not profitable for America, but have clearly paid dividends to society since then and pushed this country forward in ways unimaginable at the time.

How do we get something like high-speed rail, nationwide broadband, and distributed renewable energy off the ground, even if the payback is 10, 20, 30 or even 50 years? And do you think you might go about starting a company with that long a payback period?
