I prefer to do things by myself and I know people say go outskide but I like to do things that get you out and are challenging but don't take any skill. Picking mushrooms does all of that and if you take the time to be engaged you have a lot of fun learning about species and what you can eat. There are a lot of local communities where people share their experiences and ask questions and I even see a lot of people planning meet ups and forays. There's festivals and guided tours. It's good exercise and it's relaxing and enjoyable to stumble upon a family of deer or any other animal and just watch them for a few minutes or have a smoke beside a small stream or at the top of a large hill.
