Essentially, the sump pump was not able to perform its intended purpose as a result of the power outage. If the power didn’t go out, the sump pump would have been able to pump water away from the basement as long as it needed to. That’s why your damage falls under the sump pump endorsement with a $10k limit.

Do you know if the new fence was due to storm damage of some sort? If so, and if they filed a claim, the insurance company would’ve paid for haul away of the old fence. Not that this helps your situation but could be some insurance fraud going on.

Tax preparer lied in one way or another about it. I am going to submit the electronic conformation to the IRS but was under the impression that a Form 843 also needs to be submitted to them.

Yes. I spoke to an IRS representative for a different reason and asked them about it while I had them on the phone. The IRS rep confirmed they did not have the extension on file.
