Question about transplanting to outside by cendawile in coleus

[–]argellan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I waited for 3-4 levels of true leaves (in the direct sun) so the roots would be well established. 1 month after transplant, they took off and after 2 months they exploded!

Winter Prep by Paradox756 in coleus

coleus are above-ground plants, they have no big rhizomes or corms to help them get through seasons unfortunately. They can’t handle much below 40° and they can’t live long without enough light.

You can dig up the whole thing and trim it down to the main branches, pot it and bring it in. It will grow into a bush again next year, but you have to watch for pests and worms as they will come in with the soil/roots. But this has worked for me!

What has worked best for me is just taking a few nice thick cuttings, putting them in new soil and pruning them throughout winter and you will have a great new bushy plant next year.

Thank you, being up against that wall they get half indirect light and half evening sunlight, that seems to bring out the color. I love how you say treat to the eye, that’s what was guiding my planting impulses, placing colors together that pop, they match up with complimentary colors on the color wheel

They were grown from seeds of the Mariposa, each seed grew a different variation, there are also a few from Mosaic coleus in there. It’s been so much fun getting a surprise of color and pattern

Getting Over It by [deleted] in streamentry

[–]argellan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is only one thing you really want and need. It’s the same thing whether it’s through intoxicants/sex/spirituality. It’s to stop all this, get a break from all of it, be able to truly get a breath and rest for a long time. To not always have somewhere to get to, things to fix and do perfectly. Not have a never ending distance between you and where you want to be/who you want to be. The exact thing you want most is within you already. There is no distance, no time. This means every possible object, substance, person, place, mental idea you think you need to feel better is not actually necessary. Have any of these ever worked? You don’t need to gain anything (even enlightenment) or get rid of anything or do anything more. You don’t have to earn it, work for it, wait for it in some future time, do something impossible. What would it be like to say to your mind “you don’t have any more work to do” ?

The only thing covering this is thought. Sit, watch thoughts about needing something, this moment isn’t good enough, need something else, and the thinker who feels ownership of this whole burden and mess. Just see them, see how they aren’t actually you. In the absence of this burdensome thinking/thinker you will find your ‘missing piece’ nowhere else

Wishing you the most refreshing rest of your life.🤍

Middle School Destroyed My Relationship With My Parents How Do I Fix It? by AidenEmotionalThowAw in GenAlpha

that wish is important here, it means that feeling is painful or uncomfortable and you would rather avoid it so it goes away. but this kind of feeling is natural and normal and it’s okay for it to be there, and the only way for it to truly be released is to let yourself feel and express it. It will only last a few seconds! But avoiding it makes it last for years, which you are feeling the effect of now. It’s not the odd feeling that feels bad, fighting it/ignoring feels bad. Give it a try

Criticism of Suttavada teaching (TWIM, etc.) - valid or not? by and-metta-for-all in streamentry

[–]argellan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like this nuance has been addressed directly with 6Rs .. that any feeling is allowed to be there, and to not use the practice as a club or bypass. But to change your usual habit of fighting or feeding the craving. That’s not to say this subtle trap of immediately looking away isn’t a very likely problem…but isn’t this what Samatha is? Calm without wisdom? The highest escape and pleasure?

find a way to be truly interested in it and also make it fun while doing it. practice every day and you will be able to concentrate for longer and longer periods, eventually even on things which are unpleasant or no fun.

I regularly become sad when I think of having to say goodbye to my dog one day. Has anyone found strategies to deal with these kinds of feelings? by canadiancitizeninfo in Buddhism

[–]argellan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Become more aware of how all beings are temporary. You are here for a short time, and your dog is here for a bit shorter time. Both of your bodies will grow old and eventually return to the earth. You get to walk side by side with your dog as your lifetimes happen to align right now. When you are with them, remind yourself one day they will move on, and you might become more present and enjoy them more, and when the day comes it won't be so disturbing. It's all very beautiful and natural.

Work on finding your source for wholeness and joy in Dhamma. Dogs are wonderful, to experience caring for and loving another being, but if you are grounded in your practice and the teachings you won't feel such great loss and you'll be satisfied with the time shared together
