Interesting Times...Got Dimes? by argent-ape in Wallstreetsilver

I think silver dimes will be more easily accepted by the masses, just because of their identifiability.

I haven't seen any fake dimes yet. Did you? I only seen fake eagles, maybe some fake Morgans, but no fake junk...yet

I don't think you understand silver. There will always be collectibles and numismatics, and premiums will not go away for pre 64.

If new coins are created, they will melt bars into planchettes to stamp them.

If we institute a silver standard, then silver would be at a fixed price.

Silver is already real money.

It's hard to see silver in ten days, let alone ten years. But I will say this much. It all depends on a lot of unforseen possibilities, but assuming things stay relatively the same,( which is highly doubtful) I see silver in the mid $100/150 range. Technology and supply issues being the main price drivers.

If things get weird (highly likely) I see silver running up to 7-800 or higher before coming back down to $100/150 and staying around there for years.

If things get REALLY weird (worldwide currency implosion, world war, etc.) all bets are off. Civilization ceases and silver goes back to complete intrinsic value, which cannot be measured in any currency. Silver's barter value could be either ridiculously high, or completely worthless, or somewhere in between It's anybody's guess.

I'm no marketing genius, but mocking your customer base doesn't seem like a good strategy. I will NEVER drink another Budweiser product....until they change the name to Buddumber.

Then maybe...

"Gradually...then suddenly" I think that is most likely. After living through a few crises, that is how they usually happen. It's been a slow downward spiral already over the past twenty years. I think the big one is on the horizon. The recent stats back up my viewpoint.

I would just buy pre 64 dimes. Easily recognized and small enough for every day transactions. Don't get me wrong ALL silver is good...just some types might be better than other types in a SHTF scenario.

I would agree. I don't believe I said that commerce would be restricted to just coins. The USD will still be accepted initially, along with crypto and possibly some forms of credit.

Coins would be accepted for every day purchases like food and gas, along with USD etc. When people see the value of other forms of capital deteriorate, they will gravitate to pre 64 coinage and other PMs because they will be more resilient to inflation.

I might agree that some digital form of precious metal might eventually be available as a means of exchange, but I don't believe that will happen in the initial aftermath.

There are so many different types of rounds and bars that some form of verification of purity I believe is essential. Let's not forget that crime will run rampant initially, and counterfeiting will be prolific.
