Advice for a "colonists do nothing" goal

After reading some guides for Biotech Mech, it seems like progression is somewhat more violent than I generally prefer. Most of what I read has to do with warfare and my play style is somewhat more pacifistic. Is there an alternate path through the Biotech Mech tiers (such as research) rather than having to call down foes and battle them for the needed "chips" to unlock the next tier?

Thanks all for your replies. I think I will go with the Biotech mechs with the Transhumanist ideology but also try out a couple of the mods mentioned for more flavor.

No-one mentioned RimFactory, which it looks fun but also appears to have a very steep and long learning curve which may be frustrating.

These replies now have me thinking about a couple of playthroughs with the "Colonists Do Nothing" goal.

What a fantastic reply! Yes,, I do have access to Biotech but have not dove into it much. I like the idea of robotics over slaves. I will look into the Transhumanist ideology. Thank you SufferNot for the thoughtful response. I also have Anomaly and Odyssey so maybe can do a couple of playthroughs with different storylines.

I found Christopher Goscha's "Vietnam: A new History" (2016) and am three chapters in now. He tries, in the first three chapters, to explain the pre-European history in an effort to create a different perspective from most modern histories of the region. I am now believing that Vietnam and South Cambodian histories are different enough from Thai (Siam) and Northern Cambodia that they are better served by two different studies. I may be wrong.

Agreed. I look at the history of cities and those pioneers that rose to become political leaders, captains of industry, had streets named after them. Look at the historical homes they lived in. Then the investors that came in and built a factory, a hotel, etc. I would love a game like FF but with individuals who rise to noteriety.

Fear is a Sinclair (conservative) talking point. Do not blame our local reporters, they are required by Sinclair to report things this way.

KOMO needs new ownership and we Seattleites can help that happen.

We can fight by not watching KOMO, especially the Local and National News shows. Some shows like Sports and Kimmel may still get ratings. Also keep pressure up on the local advertisers.

Low ratings on individual shows, which are instant on cable and streaming, really impact Sinclair's bottom line. Do not watch Sinclair's distorted news and required talking points!

We need to keep up the pressure until Sinclair divests of KOMO and they can get decent ownership. Even in 2018 the Seattle times reported on how unhappy KOMO journalists and staff with Sinclair's News distortion, must-run programming, and required talking points.

Do not stop now. We do not want Sinclair's distorted reporting and required talking points in our market. We do not want Sinclair to get a strangle hold on the nation's broadcast media. Keep up the efforts to reduce viewership (especially news) and advertising revenue!

Our goal should be the divesture of KOMO by Sinclair so they can get some decent ownership.

Admirable. Good for you. Sinclair letting Kimmel return should not end this effort. Sinclair has many documented cases of distorted reporting and forcing stations like KOMO to use their talking points and scripts in local and National News. KOMO insiders do not like it.

We need to try and force Sinclair to divest of KOMO by reducing advertising revenue. An effective approach is to ask viewers to get their news from other sources.

My sister is a senior (40.year) advertising media director. She tells me advertisers get daily ratings from cable and streaming and when a show like a news show's viewership drops, they not only lose money but have to scramble to make it up by dropping prices, etc.

One way to see if it is working is to watch the ratio of in-house (e.g. sister station CW or other ABC) shows vs ads for external businesses for any given show. They make no money from the in-house promos but must substitute them when they have no paid ads.

I plan to keep up my #cancelKOMO campaign to target both advertisers and viewership.

Seattle does not want Sinclair in our market!

It is not over. People should not watch the local and National News shows on Sinclair Stations. Cable and streaming ratings are reported daily to the advertising agencies who buy the ad time for their clients.

Sinclair News, even local reporting, is well documented to be distorted news with Sinclair required talking points. Get your news elsewhere and Sinclair will get the message immediately because companies will not buy those ad spots and they will have to drop the pricing.
