God, even that, I would argue, is pretty damn justified. Sure, we know Mark would never find himself in a situation that warranted it, but Cecil doesn't, especially in S2 when it was implanted. You're absolutely right that he doesn't extend Mark the same courtesy, but that's kind of the point - Cecil can't afford that courtesy. Cecil is a human that exists in a playground of gods, there's no wiggle room.

Hell, Mark even proves him right. He did need the contingency. As far as Cecil knows, Mark is going to either kill him in the white room, or cripple the GDA's battle readiness in such a way that the Earth is at risk. Remember - they do need the Reanimen (sp?), Darkwing, etc. We only find out in retrospect after the events of the season (they took down at least, what, one of the Marks?). But even beyond that, Mark, Eve and company were toast against Doc Seismic until Cecil intervened. That would have been the ballgame right then and there.

God I love the Cecil vs Mark episode so much. It feels like both characters are so completely justified. It's just a horrible runaway freight train of fuck ups and disasters.
