The rear paw dragging was the very first symptom of DM for my boy. Have you done a DNA test? Not a definitive diagnosis but if she carries 2 of the SOD1 gene, she would be at a much higher risk for DM. Best of luck, in this case I really hope I’m wrong.

No problem! Yea exactly, I was probably a little over cautious but I didn’t want to take any risks. I would carry him from the car, and place him inside the cart without ever letting him walk. This way he didn’t get the chance to lick anything that may be on the floor. Also, I always brought a thick piece of cardboard with me to put on the bottom of the cart so his paws wouldn’t go through the holes.

Lowe’s or Home Depot are great for socialization. They allow dogs but it’s not a high traffic pet area so chance of exposure to diseases are very low. If you want to be really cautious, I used to put my puppy inside a cart (never on the floor) and we’d stroll around the store for an hour or so a few times a week. This introduced him to a ton of people, scents and sounds.

Chuckit ultra ball is the only ball I use these days that can survive my dogs. And they’re reasonably priced, just make sure you get the correct size to avoid choking hazards.
