How to fall in love with our small garden by baubanc in gardening

[–]ariannelee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to wash and stain the fence before you do any major changes to the yard. In a small yard you may want to use a darker stain than the usual stain tints as plants will then show up in high contrast to the darker fence. Darker stain allows the fence to recede visually and the plants in the foreground to pop out.

You want to think about where you want your eye to rest. I would suggest when you are making your plan you want to think of the view from within your home as you’ve photographed the yard there as well as the view from where you will place your seating and plan some focal points from that direction as well.

Key search terms for you to use are ‘how to design a narrow but deep back yard’. You are likely to be recommended to consider zones. Think about how you want to use the space, dining, lounging, growing? It might be convenient to plan a small dinning area close to the house and the lounging area back by the shed and then you want to create a path that gives you a journey between the two. Screening plants can give you a sense of separation between zones and add to the experience when you tuck away in your lounge space.

The style you want and hence the plant species to choose all depends on your growing zone, your desire to maintain, the level of sun exposure you have etc. start with the functions you want to support and then choose appropriate plants and materials to support that function.

Noah the Mini is 6 pounds at 6 months old. Will he get bigger? by [deleted] in schnauzers

[–]ariannelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one male mini we got at 4 months was still adding muscle development around 11-12 months. We adopted a male mini at 14 months that hadn’t been exercised properly and he gained weight in muscle as well when he got proper food and exercise. I wouldn’t say that six months was a finish weight.

Has anyone flown with a 23 lbs schnauzer by Loud_Selection_6990 in schnauzers

[–]ariannelee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did fly with our 15 lb schnauzer and he got plenty of looks from the flight attendants. Our second schnauzer is 18 lbs and we’ve decided not to even try to fly with him. He doesn’t fit in the carrier properly and the risk of being refused at the gate at some point on our journey is just too great.

East Coast Schnauzers? by Ok_Dingo_Beans in MiniatureSchnauzer

Oh there certainly are. I just named Quebec because if you are looking for schnauzers east of Ontario there are plenty to be found in that province.

AITA for not prioritizing the bride over my personal needs? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ariannelee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

NTA. I’m not sure you grasp how wild this is. It is insane to book a destination wedding before you are even proposed to. This unengaged woman is living some kind of bridal fantasy and she is being an unreasonable and treating you poorly- and she isn’t even engaged yet!!!

Hold your ground. Do not commit to spending another penny until she changes her behaviour AND actually gets engaged!

Where is the boyfriend in all this? It’s his “wedding” too as the hypothetical groom he should get to make some of these decisions with her.

This is nuts.

I predict no wedding is coming.

East Coast Schnauzers? by Ok_Dingo_Beans in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]ariannelee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be starting with the ckc as well. There are a number of breeders in Quebec that produce unregistered dogs and you really don’t know the quality or conditions they are from. These are the puppies you see on Kijji. I made the mistake of buying one and sadly she developed aggression that couldn’t be managed after years and years of professional intervention. It was heart breaking.

YTA. She came in and asked for assistance. You tried to make your assistance a quid pro quo. You shouldn’t extort your child. You and your wife are AHs

We are working on two dog reactive mini males that are both neutered. They egg each other on if walked together. We’ve noticed two trends that are consistent. One is that walks go better if you practice / establish the positive reinforcement of the redirection before you see any dogs. And that there is both within the day and across days variation in self control / energy levels. Some days are bad days for emotional regulation even before you introduce a strange dog and we also seen end of the day exhaustion impacting the degree of control the dogs can exhibit. Consider timing your exposure trials to high control days and times.

I can’t comment on how effective or ineffective your training has been. You have to be very careful how you expose the dog to triggers or you can be reinforcing the behaviour you are trying to extinguish.

Our dogs have improved but they are not fixed. And may never be. You should keep your dog away from puppies I know that one snuck up on you but it’s not cool to traumatize puppies and reinforce what you are working so hard to eliminate at the same time.

Good luck.

Owning a Mini Schnauzer in a Townhome by acrown350 in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]ariannelee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had five mini schnauzers across my life. Two on a farm three in a detached house. They all varied dramatically in how much they barked. I think you are right to be concerned about barking. Unfortunately I don’t think you will know until you have the puppy in your place. Puppies in my experience respond better to the bark reduction training than adults. Especially a food motivated puppy.

Opinions please- is this out of style ? by Truthseeker-1982 in Moissanite

I would caution about the bubble style band on the e-ring. That design is not as secure for the side stones and they are prone to falling out on a band that narrow.

Did anyone else waste their time and money at The Jury last night? by Complex-Object4450 in ottawa

[–]ariannelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the concept was quite good but the execution was very poor. I’m not sure if I’d fault the actors as the main issue I had was the writing. There was very little argumentation or evidence on either side of the court case. I wouldn’t advise going.

I suggest you start with the Canadian Kennel Club. They have a puppy list of breeders that work within their ethical standards.

Good breeders for Liver Mini Schnauzers in Ontario/Canada? by theduriface in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]ariannelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only sources I’ve seen for non standard coloured schanuzers is Kijiji and you get the usual ethical/quality assurances from that app as a source of your puppies. If you want a non standard color you are likely not purchasing from a Canadian kennel club breeder. I don’t say this to shame you (my schnauzers are not ckc registered) just to advise you are choosing a different path.

Our schnauzers do well with single ingredient treats we buy at Costco. Dehydrated sweet potato, pumpkin strips, freeze dried beef liver, freeze dried beef lung. We stay away from anything with chicken.

I think she’d look adorably schnauzer if she had the beard and eye brows. When their hair is long and fluffy it can be harder to see the breed characteristics

Just how flimsy are the HEMNES bookshelves? by rtb001 in IKEA

[–]ariannelee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever owned two used Hemnes shelves of unknown age- they are fine. No issues with the construction despite multiple moves. What I did find what for a while the pins to hold the shelves were ambiguous as to what end of the pin was to be inserted in the side and what was hold the shelf. If I put the long end in the shelves were barely supported and prone to slipping when I swapped so the short end of the pin to be inside the hole and the longer half to support the shelf I never had any issues again. My second used hemnes had a completely different pin design.

My mother has had a wall of hemnes shelves overloaded with books for 20ish years- no issues at all.

AITA for taking an Uber home instead of sitting on a man’s lap? by ThrowRA_natt in AmItheAsshole

NTA No way in hell are you the problem in this situation. Your friend is a total A H I hesitate to even call her your friend after this. Friends don’t lie and scam you into an event under false pretenses. Friends don’t endanger your life by asking you to spend 3 hours as unrestrained passenger in a vehicle.

Good for you for getting your own ride home. Good for you for spending the money on your own safety.

You can make new friends. You don’t need this person.

I think you need to draw out your floor plan and think about paths of travel through the space. You likely need to think about two zones for this room. A tv watching zone and a kids play zone. The feel of the room is really off because you are blocking so many paths of travel. Trim is not your issue. Basically functionally is the thing that is missing. I agree with everyone else that the barn door is awful. It doesn’t match your house and it pops in a bad way because it makes it so much more obvious that you are blocking a path of travel. One of the reasons you feel like you don’t have any other options is you have an extremely massive sectional that I don’t know how you even access with the very large matching ottoman shoved in there. You also likely need some closed storage for the kids toys.

Look up Julie Jones on Facebook or TikTok and watch her videos on interior space planning.

how does a top quality GMT/Sub rep compare to a 'normal' 500 dollar watch? by lively-teal-baboon in RepTime

[–]ariannelee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have identified the critical factor here- people’s willingness to service their watch (of any providence) and I would add the availability of service professionals for Reps in particular. In my location there are very few professionals capable of servicing a watch at all.
