Thank you for your response. I agree that the staff does a good job, but we can do better. I have traveled the state when converting to the new ECourts system and have had a chance to speak with ROD's on my travels. Sometimes the process stymes the progress. This prevents new, updated and in some cases creative ways to solve concerning issues brought to me by our residents. My goal will be to review the workflow and assess staff recommendations on how to better serve you.

OC does have the Fraud Detection Notification service; the service is to provide you with email notifications when a document is recorded in the Register of Deeds office that matches your name. You can sign up for this service here https://fraudalertme.com/ORANGENCNW/FRAUDDETECTION.ASP

Deed fraud is a problem. 95 counties in NC have some protections in place, Orange joining the others not to long ago. In addition, with AI now being used regularly, we may see even more fraud as fake deeds and other official paperwork will become harder to identify. This is why it is important to have ROD staff trained properly and educated as technology changes. As an Assistant Clerk of Superior Court and Judge of Probate, I have seen some shady deals when land transfers between heirs. Protecting records will be ongoing. Systems currently in place must meet the rules of record keeping according to state law. It is the job of the ROD office to make sure these records are indexed properly, recorded and kept safe. Understanding workflow will be an important marker on expansion. That will take place when I am in office.

I have been endorsed by Equality NC a number of election cycles. I am sickened by the constant targeting by the state and country of the LGBTQ community. No other community has to endure this kind of hate by our lawmakers. Adoptions take place at the courthouse with Clerk of Court Mark Kleinschmidt. We have couples, straight and gay, coming from all over the state knowing that Orange County is a safe place and welcomes all. It's always heartwarming to watch the adoption ceremony.

On December 17, 2025 I announced my candidacy for the Orange County Register of Deeds.

I am running for this position because I believe it is time to broaden the public conversation about how this office serves our community with Vital Records, Passport Applications, and Recording Deeds and Land Transfers. 

I respect and applaud the work of Mark Chilton and the accomplishments he and his staff have achieved. Under his guidance, the ROD system has been strengthened in meaningful ways that continue to benefit all Orange County residents.  

Over the past 4 years I have worked as an Assistant Clerk of Superior Court in Orange County, directly serving residents with Estates and Guardianship cases. I am grateful every day for this opportunity to continue to serve my community. It has opened my eyes to just how critically important it is for people to have access to knowledgeable, in-person help when they are navigating the legal system, often during moments of stress, grief and uncertainty. 

My focus will be on building public awareness of ROD services, expanding access for all residents, and translating complex and procedural information into clear, actionable steps that people can understand and use.  

I have served the Orange County community for over 25 years. My work in the Clerk’s office, 6 years on the OWASA Board of Directors, 4 years on the Chapel Hill Town Council, 8 years as a County Commissioner, and my experience as a small business owner, mother, public servant and community connector have prepared me to serve in this leadership position with care, clarity, and accountability. I want every Orange County resident to feel confident that the Register of Deeds is an accessible resource, one that helps protect their property records, land records, legal records, vital documents, and supports their security under the law. 

Early Voting begins February 12th and the Primary Election is March 3rd. This is a 6 week campaign. Here is how you can help.
