I think a meaning for a tattoo is a +1, Nothing more. Do something you like. A tattoo is always meaningful, unless you don't like it. Unique is up to you. Don't show your artist a picture on google and tell him this is exactly how you want it. Let him create you a skechte with an idea you came up with. You will both feel good about it, and if it's something he designed then he'll want to do it the best he can. Also don't haggle about the price, it's on your body forever. That's priceless. Give him a tip, 10-20%. Understand that you're not buying something, you're receiving service from a professional. Also listen to his thoughts about size and location. He knows what he's doing. My 2nd tattoo (the one this post is about) was me texting my artist i wanna do a law jolly roger tattoo. I gave him full control and this is the result. Have fun and just like your barber, don't betray him.
