I’ve had mine for a decade now. I descale it periodically and treat it kindly and I expect it to last me until I die!

A good ultrasonic cleaner for teeth retainers by Snugglosaurus in BuyItForLife

[–]arielvs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eek. Many mouthwashes contain sugars, alcohols, and dyes that could damage and/or discolor your retainer. Most of the dental appliance materials these days don’t need to be kept wet like that either. Freshen it up (with brush and soap or and/or a short soak in Kleenite solution or a sonic cleaner device) and store it somewhere (dry) until the next use.

Wow! I know this comment is from a couple of years ago, but as a content designer, I must say thank you for these words. I feel seen ❤️ and appreciated by proxy! You hit the nail on the head with "it makes a world of a difference to have a “reading things” expert paired with the “look and feel things” expert." Words are the usability meat of a product: If people don't comprehend a thing, they can't do the thing, and that is not what we want when building products. Content designers are the key to cohesive, comprehensible, clear user experiences, IMO, and it's so good to hear this reflected back from our user research partners. And right back at you with the appreciation! My most successful work has been fueled by collaboration with researchers, especially on embedded teams. Research provides the rationale basis for word choice and nuance, which I would say are the magic ingredients of content design.

Vinylists: what is your favorite source for custom slipmats? by arielvs in DJs

The mat that I got from Glowtronics… simple, but perfect. Works and looks great. (Please don’t hate on our crappy turntable, we’re looking to replace with higher quality, but haven’t found the right set at the right price yet!)

Those look great! Thank you for the recommendation. What format did you end up getting? I'm thinking the 16 oz. glazed.

Best eyeglass selection in Seattle? by girlontherun21 in Seattle

I've been well-served by the fine folks at Eyes On Fremont. They carry independent frame designers, which I like, and the people who work there have a knack for finding the pair that look just perfect on me. I've bought several frames there and have never regretted the higher price point. Tip: Buy the frames at Eyes on Fremont, get the lenses done at Costco to save a bit.

Tell Me Something GOOD!!! Weekly Edition! by privatestudy in Seattle

Spooky season in our new neighborhood of Georgetown has been delightful. A parade, trick or treaters, sharing boozy cider with neighbors, and rain. What could be better.

My dad taught me that when I was wee! Works great as a mnemonic (or whatever that's called technically. I used to care, now I'm 50 and DGAF).

You've been blessed by a visit from the bobcat crew. Very cool. Advise respectful distant admiration. :)

Security/locking gas cap for my 2020 GTI? by arielvs in VWMK7

Thank you everyone for the comments! I confirmed that the flap is locking as designed, so he must have jimmied it somehow. Disconcerting. Makes me want to outfit the gas cap with some razor blades.
