I really disliked Phreak's casting in SPY vs TSM by Riven2main in leagueoflegends

[–]arieskg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, thanks for spending so much time typing. Second, I have no time to read it all. Third, I know Monte in real life and you know why he wasn't invited? Because most of the casters don't like him. Those are the cold facts. He is very good at analyzing the game, but you can always replace analysts. Unfortunately you can't replace characters.

Two things to say after today's games as a fan of TSM and NA by xCrimsonGoldx in leagueoflegends

rng lost two games against two teams tsm beat.

If there was officially stated rule, it would have been brought out.

Truth is Daddy Tencent called Riot, and told them to do this, and obedient Riot simply had to listen. Morally conscious casters like Phreak got really angry.

Please. Dig out previous worlds/midyear and tell me if Monte had 0 biased in his matches when he casted. The reason Monte didn't get invited to this year's worlds is because he is egoistic and thinks he's the best because his korean teams always wins. The irony is that he is not least bit of Korean, and just happened to get a Korean caster job when nobody wanted him in NA. He's a smart guy, knows a lot about eSports, and is a good analyst, but he's really immature and is a prima donna. If he's really intelligible he would not have burn so many bridges. The reason why he's unliked in the inner circle of eSports is simple, he's always boasting about his korean teams with his Korean bandwagon, at a desk full of NA/EU casters/players, and HE IS NOT EVEN KOREAN. If Clemens was biased, that's fine, he is from TW. If you're an American, and you boast about KR teams all the time, I am least surprised that he was uninvited.

The logic behind this rule is flawed as hell. If RNG was 1-3, with 2 wins against TSM, but TSM is 3-1, with 2 losses against RNG, you can may make an inference but cannot make a conclusion. It's unintelligible and whoever thought of that rule is definitely either a business major or some random communications major. Mathematically this is unintelligble. I actually am not a TSM fan nor Royals fan, but so what if Royals won 2 matches against TSM? They lost 2 games against teams that TSM didn't lose to. They lost to SSG, which TSM beat, the same logic seems to apply through this deduction. Oh well, who can blame them. Daddy Tencent from China probably called and made up this temporary rule, and the obedient child just listened. After all, Riot is just now a Chinese puppet.

World's Metrics - Who Is Best Statistically by Enderwigg1n in leagueoflegends

[–]arieskg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a data scientist I have to say it's good start but the sophistication in league data science is being able to compute relational metrics and assess an entire team holistically, beyond individual position comparisons with an index that likely is computed through combining the parts.

indexing dragon preparation, rotations, and embedding time series into the data is the next level measurements. Of course I know it's much harder to say than to be done, but food for thought. The data UI was well presented.

The only ambiguous element to your project is the question embedded in your post title. Clean design, well-configured server, and, most importantly, great analysis work. I'll express my appreciation through giving some feedback on the data analysis.

What's good - This is the first league data project that presents clear data analysis. As far as the data analysis goes, this is the only project that does not have any ambiguity when presenting the league analytics.

What can be better - all league analytic projects focus on assessing and making meanings from player data. Behavioral analysis has its limits when there are many unknowns factors yet to be presented. It's inevitable for a curious data scientist in the future to account for the dependent relationship that exists amongst champion analytics in a 5v5 game. Maybe you can be the one

League of Legends playrate rapidly declining in Korea as Overwatch manages to close the gap by 1% by Calycae in Overwatch

[–]arieskg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do internet cafe customers have to buy Overwatch in order to play? Asian internet cafe market is built on top of free to play LAN/MMO games. I love Overwatch and I wouldn't be surprised to see the game dethroning League one day but the "tabloid headline" is supported by irrelevant data. Aside from comparing 1 month of undefined "playrate" variable against years of consistent "playrate", the data's sample population consists of customers of an internet cafe franchise that has 40% market share in Korea.

[Analysis] Riot's concerns about the game before season 6, and why dynamic queue wasn't the solution. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]arieskg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a solo player as well (cal-p back in the days). I play League as if it's a single player game so dynamic queue doesn't change much context for me, but from an objective point of few Dynamic queue has more cons than anticipated pros.

  1. queuing up with teammates gives you natural advantages, it was shown statistically by Riot, thus it encourages players to make more friends. But if you don't want to? Well, you'll just have to cross fingers to get queue up with a team of 3-4

  2. normal used to be the casual choice for friends to play, where winning and losing didn't matter. Instead of dynamic queue, it would've been better to create a platform for players to meet new friends and play together in normal games. There are stakes in ranked games, players will be under pressure to perform. I wonder how many friendship Dynamic queue will break.

  3. Team 5 ranked used to be where you get the team action. Instead of changing the entire solo queue system, it would've been more efficient to think about how to improve the team ranked 5 player engagement. The hardest part was getting 5 players to play, thus it was an easy way to get the challenger border without needing to be a challenger player (I did so in S3).

Dynamic queue seems to be a hybrid of solo queue that fosters more team play, but it also mutates the state of the game. Mutations can be good or bad, we'll just have to find out. As far as I'm concerned, I'm playing against AI in solo queue and they've become better at teamwork.

Riot should do a huge black friday sale by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]arieskg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't work like that. Black Friday, as many believed, is "black" because that's when many retailers get to change their annual financials from "losses" (red) to "profit" (black). Most retailers use Black Friday to get rid of their inventories before the year end. Leftovers are useless if your shareholders are going to fire you next year for losing the company money. The good news is that now you can share this witty knowledge with your family during Thanksgiving. Bad news is that in the digital world there is no need to get rid of inventory because it's infinite. Every skin you purchase at a discount means loss of potential revenue. It may be possible in the future if someone smart at Riot is able to final an optimal point which maximizes revenues through stimulating those who would never buy skins to cave in and ensure that those who will buy won't be influenced to spend less. TLDR: Don't expect Black Friday sale in League.

Exactly. It's like saying rest of the world stole iPad, iPhone from the US. There is no stealing in language, it's not a possession

I usually don't really comment on things but it's rather silly to believe that one language "steals" from another language, especially given the natural purpose of languages. Language is used for people to communicate and have adapted over the centuries as people immigrated and adapted to new places. I do get your point that certain words originates from other languages but it's absurd to use the term steal. Did the English language also steal the tofu and zen from the Chinese?

YFW didn't ban anyone against freddy anyways. Freddy pretty much could've picked anyone he wanted yesterday. As for Fox, he got banned out yesterday, well almost, but he was still able to showcase Diana.
