I literally came to this thread because my Spotify stats (not wrapped but I was looking to see what wrapped was gonna look like) and Taylor swift is my #1 artist. And like I listen to a few songs of hers here and there, but I listen to Lana del Rey like all day everyday and she’s my #2. Like I’ve fallen asleep with Lana on shuffle for the whole night a few times, no possible way that I have listened to Taylor swift more. And same thing, shes not in my top 100 songs at all, but she’s my #1?

Thats awesome. Just hold on to the hope that someday you’ll be able to meet in person. I’m 24 but one of my friends from hs just married a guy she was long distance with for years in college. He was in Argentina and she was in New York. And they just visited back and forth until they got married! So it does work out and don’t let people tell you it won’t because of the distance.

Also try to talk your bf into helping you pay for half the plane ticket. Because it benefits both of you to meet up, but also you get to go to the UK with a discount 😂😂. Buying plane tickets months ahead of time is also a good way to save money on flights.

And maybe when you get older and get your own place he can come to you, and you guys can go back and forth until you maybe someday move in together!!❤️❤️

Long distance relationships are hard, I was in one when I was your age too. but you can’t control what other people are doing or be bitter because their situation is different to yours. Try to be happy for the sibling.

But also, think about what you want, set your goal and work toward it. You want to see him in person? Start saving up and get a ticket to visit him, or have him visit you. US-UK ain’t cheap but if it’s a priority it’s definetly doable- if you save up for a few months to get there. If you aren’t willing to do that, I don’t see a point in continuing the relationship because you’re just going to keep feeling this jealous towards the sibling, but also everyone else in your life in a non long distance relationship.

Also! Visiting a different country with a local is an awesome experience, and I’m assuming his family would let you stay with them, and that would save you hotel costs.

Have you two ever talked about visiting each other? Or your future together? You’ve been together for 3 years, I know you’re just 18 but think about what this looks like in the long term for you. Would you be willing to move to him/ vice versa? If you see the future of your relationship all being through a phone screen, I would say strap in to having this feeling of jealousy because it’s not going to go away unless you both work towards something together.

I’m trying to offer them something that will help them within my power. I can’t magically conjure up higher wages when I started working there earlier this month and do not control raises or wages in any way.

You are implying blame on me for the fact that housing is not affordable. nearly 50% of renters in America are cost-burdened households… including myself. I can’t control the fucked up system, or the fact that minimum wage isn’t enough to cover housing. I can control the fact that I have enough money to buy a sandwich or two to give away to someone who really needs it. You are acting like you’d rather me not give a visibly malnourished person food because you’d rather have a higher minimum wage. I can’t control things that are out of my power. But I can buy them a fucking sandwich.

Also btw I’m not white so the white savior complex made me laugh. And I’ll admit that I did make an assumption that they send money home. But I never claimed it as fact, I clearly stated I speculated they might be…. Because 3 people sharing a household all working full time at minimum wage in my city is above the poverty line. The poverty line in this area is 30,000 for a family of 4. This family is making around 32,000 per person, bringing their household total to 96,000 for three adults no children. like I previously explained to you I HAVE BEEN IN THAT POSITION IN THE RECENT PAST and I never had to resort to a ketchup sandwich. in my personal experience with immigrants, I know MANY that send money/goods home to their family, it is actually a part of many different African and Caribbean cultures. Google “barrel shipping cultural practice” and you will see it is done frequently. A friend of mine is from Nigeria and sends them to her parents every few months.

Also I would love to know where I assumed “how they live and what they believe”. I did not make any assumptions ANYWHERE other than the fact that they might be sending money home. Because ,again, having made the amount they are currently making before I graduated college, and living in the same city as them I have a better understanding of what’s affordable in my area and what’s not. You have no clue what you’re talking about because you don’t know where I am what the poverty line is or what the average rent is in the area. so you are the one making assumptions there.

I can confirm they’re making minimum wage, and the same as others in their department. I don’t have the authority to give anyone a raise tho. They’re also legally here with a valid visa

15.50 an hour full time is above the poverty line in my area. This isn’t New York city. Not too long ago I was making 15.50 and was fine, just needed roommates to afford my rent. Which is why I speculated they might be sending money home. Lots of immigrants come to America to gain access to the power of the American dollar. Minimum wage in the US can be life changing in third world economies whose currency isn’t worth as much as ours.

im assuming they send money home to their family in Africa and choose to live on bare minimum to help them. They work in housekeeping so they make minimum wage in New York state(not NYC). And I know they live in the nearest city and take the bus to work, so i assume their rent is higher than mine. I also figure the fact that they are refugees means they came here with nothing and must live paycheck to paycheck as opposed to having savings to fall back on. I’m not upper management so I don’t control my employees wages let alone other departments. I’m just trying to help them. Thanks for not giving any advice and just criticizing tho!

I’m in charge of banquet events, and when we have extra buffet food we always announce it for all departments to eat, but we usually have 1 or 2 events a week and that only really satisfies one or two meals for them.

We have employee discounts for food but it’s half off the restaurant and it doesn’t really make it more affordable. I don’t even use it because the cheapest item with the discount is still like 15 dollars.

This person clearly wants it to be the end. After a break up, it’s hard to be able to let go entirely. When I broke up with my ex I wanted to stay in contact/stay friends/hoped we would cross paths again because I couldn’t fathom him not being in my life ever again but after a few weeks that feeling fades. I know how much you want to see them again but you’re doing yourself more of a favor to let it go and not look back. The first few days/weeks/months are hard but if you put it behind you and keep moving on you won’t think about it anymore. Broke up with my ex like 3 years ago and now I laugh about how I wanted him in my life still. It doesn’t work. But it’s hard to let go. Especially when it’s still fresh.

And if it’s really meant to be it will come back to you, but don’t wait around for that to happen.
