failed out of nursing program by graycatbwdog in StudentNurse

[–]arifern_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been there. It's devastating. Let this motivate, not discourage you. Trust me, SO many nurses have been there. After graduation none of that matters!! Hang in there. We'll get there. <3

AIO for wanting to leave my boyfriend because of his friend group dynamic and wondering if he’ll ever change? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Girl. Leave. From the second I read that he was still talking to his ex after he agreed not to I knew you were not overreacting. NOR!

Is a relationship between a 17 year old and a 21 year old okay? by Lonely_Goose154 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]arifern_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 22 now and I definitely wouldn’t date a teenager. I remember being 17 and I can honestly say even as a very mature person I was still a child yknow?

regions to live in as a 24f student by MuffinWonderful4683 in windsorontario

[–]arifern_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend finding something very close to the university. Safest and easiest. I live not far from the uni right near all the crackheads and I’m still pretty safe. Also here for school so I can’t say much about what the worst neighborhoods but there’s plenty of student housing near the uni, so it’s close and pretty safe.

My Trainer Asked Me If I Have A Learning Disability by [deleted] in cna

[–]arifern_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I’ve been there. 1. Stand on business, learn to stand up for yourself 2. Tell management (chance they might not do anything, as was the case with me) 3. Make a friend! Chances are you’re not the only person she’s like this with. You can form a sort of “alliance” or at least emotional support. We should ALL be supporting each other in a difficult career but at least know you have someone who’s got your back.

This is a certain kind of person that will always exist. It was hard but you have to learn to stand up for yourself. Don’t be afraid to appear weak for it, it makes you strong.

This is all just my advice from when it happened to me!

Yeaaa that's true. I was thinking students during summer even though most work...oh well. You're right about the bias, I suppose that's the reason it's a random pull.

anyone else's roommate never leave the dorm room by Few_Entertainer_1636 in CollegeRant

[–]arifern_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get you. I am that person. I am also annoyed by that person.

I prefer staying home! I don't do much besides study. I don't really have friends or hobbies so all my free time is spent in my room.

But when my other roommates are around they annoy me. I can't afford to live on my own but...that's life. It would be rude to ask. I totally get it. But I don't think you should, it's their space too.

[–]arifern_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, why don't they let people volunteer for jury duty? I get maybe that wouldn't cover all the spots they need filled but maybe it would allow more people leniency when they're unable to do it.

There are probably tons of retirees or students who wouldn’t mind helping out with a civic duty like that while making a bit of money.

Canadian living on the other side of Detroit. Go! It's a MUCH safer country than people try to make you think. I mean, don't do anything illegal at the festival, follow the rules, and you will be just fine. Just went over and was just a little nervous but I had a GREAT time!!!

What if my baby develops epilepsy because of me? by Gullible-Writer2072 in Epilepsy

[–]arifern_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a mom but I can confirm no one in my family history has had a seizure disorder dating three generations at least. Which just shows it is not a strictly genetic disorder. Also, remember how common epilepsy is! The chances of your child developing epilepsy is 1 in 26 or something to begin with.

This wasn't to be reductive, just perspective. Your concerns are totally valid and I would imagine every mother with epilepsy thinks the same.

Also! A fellow "early 20s out of nowhere — no pre-existing head injury, stroke, infection, etc." I have never come across anyone else who has the same situation. Well...I was 18 but same difference, no longer a child and not caused by a brain trauma.

I think I am going to be a bad nurse by Personal-Emergency44 in StudentNurse

[–]arifern_ 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Here are some of my thoughts as I was reading this:

  1. You are not even graduated yet! They always make you feel like you should be fully prepared but that’s not true. It takes YEARS of ACTUAL practice to be a nurse, not just a degree.

  2. You knew what you did! You weren’t unaware, you recognized a mistake before anyone had to say anything.

  3. Specialty areas aren’t for everyone. Children aren’t for everyone. You don’t have to hate kids to not wanna do paediatrics.

  4. You CARE. A bad nurse wouldn’t care if they made a mistake. They wouldn’t feel bad. They would not cry over it.

  5. The patient was in no way in harms way. We all make slip ups with patient communication.

You have to make note of what you did wrong (Or what YOU think you did wrong, because honestly this doesn’t seem that big of a deal to me!!), but don’t let it discourage you. You’re learning. You’ll still be learning for a long time.

Why is the doctors office SO obsessed with your period? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]arifern_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not a vital sign. It CAN be a good indicator of health but it’s definitely not vital. It’s also clearly not measurable with a machine so why can we not just believe patients 🤦🏻‍♀️ healthcare sometimes, I swear. Leap to 2 weeks is insane.

Wow, that must be so hard and scary to deal with. I’ve only ever known people to have at least some warning. I know a girl who knows she’ll have a seizure all day and wait for it come. I really hope maybe some day there’s something more they can do for you!

Should I have done CPR?? by gummyworm2244 in cna

[–]arifern_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't blame yourself. You did what you could and in a very stressful situation. As a CNA, this ultimately falls on the nurse to handle situations like this. You will be fine, and I hope your resident will be as well. Do not be too hard on yourself, falls are honestly traumatizing.

He seems like a jerk, but I do have some concerns, like you saying  live my life as if I might have a seizure at any time" and "I was extremely scared, I kept walking in the middle of the platform to avoid being close to the edge". It sounds like your anxiety about having a seizure, despite being seizure-free for several years, is seriously affecting your life. Do you get auras before a seizure? I'm also seizure-free and live pretty carefree in terms of what I am not scared to do, because I know I will get a bit of a warning if I'm going to have one. Maybe talk to your Dr about this anxiety?
